Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

Assassin's Creed Movie Coming From Ubisoft and Sony Pictures?

Posted on Thursday, October 20 @ 14:36:17 Eastern by

Ubisoft, Sony and the Assassin's Creed brand seem to be getting along quite nicely of late. Both Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed: Revelations have been given public multiplayer betas exclusively on Sony's PlayStation 3. Ubisoft's generation-hopping science fiction saga typically gets exclusive pieces of content on the PS3 as well.

Now it appears that Sony Pictures studios will be signing a deal with Ubisoft to develop an Assassin's Creed movie. The report comes from trade magazine Variety that a bidding war sprung out last year between Sony and Universal. Ubisoft created Ubisoft Motion Pictures to make the transition from games to film a smoother process.

This means that the core talent would keep a very close eye on the movies development, hopefully keeping it faithful to the brand. If I were Ubisoft, I'd be putting more effort and money into this endeavor.... The world could do without that Rabbids TV show though.

I hope this doesn't go the same way Avatar (The last airbender) or Dragonball: Evolution did, I don't want to see Altair comfronting Borgia while Ezio goes into the animus to tell Desmond he needs to prevent King Richard from taking over Abstergo.

Much as I love the AC series, I am cautious about what story they would try to tell. Go with the Assassin's vs. Knights Templar battle, extending into the modern day? Put that battle in the background of a Da Vinci code type of conspiracy?

I suppose after Inception, general audiences might accept the Animus. However, I simply don't trust any studio to avoid putting in a ham-handed love story in the middle of this.

Of all the franchises out there, I think Assassin's Creed could make a successful jump to the silver screen - but only if it's done right. And since that has yet to happen with any video game franchise trying to turn itself into movies, I won't believe it until I see it.

Though I will say, the small budget short film that Ubisoft put out wasn't that bad. I see promise, but I'm not counting my eggs on this yet.

Anyone remember the Prince of Persia movie? Yeah. I feel there is little reason to believe this will end up any differently.

Except...You knowThey may actually cast an actor from the same geographical location of the main character and they won't have horrible accents.

But Jake Gyllenhaal is so dreamy!

Seriously though I agree. I literally shut that movie off part way through cuz I scratched my head saying "What the **** is this ****?" I couldn't even stand it inebriated - now that's a bad movie.

If this happens, I hope it takes place in the modern setting. I've been wanting a game to take place there entirely, but realistically it would have had to be almost nothing like the previous games, but they would inevitably try to make it similar anyway and I would be a sad, sad man.
