Battlefield 3 Community Plans 24-Hour Blackout

Posted on Wednesday, February 22 @ 15:05:21 Eastern by

The Battlefield 3 online community at Battlefieldo.com is fed up with the lack of communication from Electronic Arts with its players. They plan on holding a 24-hour blackout of the title in protest.

Despite their love of the game, they are frustrated with the fact that "some marketing/publishing powerhouse with nothing but dollar signs and stock projections in mind", instead of DICE "who should be running the Battlefield community", has decided to be silent about everything. Since the game's launch in October, there has been "no infoformation on patches until release date, and no communication at all from the studio and developers on issues".

They fear that EA prevents DICE from providing information on "patching schedules, game updates,or even hints at Downloadable content", though they admit that DICE is part to blame for the glitches in the first place.

In reaction to this silent treatment, they will refuse to play, post, or tweet about anything on Battlefield 3... that is, unless Electronic Arts announces the fixes they are planning with the next patch before March 2nd and not give some "bullshit responses on twitter from @Battlefield telling them to contact a game advsior".

You can follow @dontrevivemebro and @Battlefieldo twitters for more information on the #BF3Blackout.

I'm expecting this to be about as successful as the MW2 dedicated server boycott.

The glitches, exploits, and boosting in BF3 are bad enough. The publisher/developer not addressing the problems or saying anything at all just compounds them further. Are they really that afraid of bad press & a negative reputation or what? I don't see what they have to gain from their silence other than not having to admit that there are problems in the first place. It almost seems egotistical.

I love BF3 but there are so many things about it that make me feel like throwing my controller into the screen sometimes! haha! Issues like the U-SAS frag rounds and, well mainly just that one, have been raised so many times by players to no avail. I'm sure that this blackout thing will come to nothing but it would be nice to see DICE or EA give some kind of response. At the end of the day the people who are most pissed off are the real fans, the ones who have paid for not only BF3 and the DLC but also previous games. Without the loyal fanbase these games would never get to position they are currently at. Some acknowledgment of this would be fall under the 'common courtesy' area in my opinion.

I had anger management issues on top of ADHD growing up, a lot of things contributed to my current state, but video games were an outlet and conditioned me to diffuse when I was on the edge. Violent didn't really register any different than other games, but people do tend to get more intense when playing intense games. Its no coincidence that violent games tend to have more demanding gameplay.

Meh, so the game has cheaters, which game doesn't. It also has unbalanced guns, like all games are perfectly balanced. Snipers riding MAVs up to buildings ... that you can still snipe them out of, so what?

Out of all my years playing CoD games, BF3 cheaters / boosters are by far the easiest to play with against. It's nothing like infinite care packages and there content bombarding the sky the entire match.
