Battlefield 3 Preorders Get Nailed Down, But Online Pass Still Up in the Air

Posted on Tuesday, August 2 @ 14:28:46 Eastern by

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM. RATATATATATATA. KERPPERW! DIE! DIE! DIE!

Oh-- Oh I'm sorry! I didn't see you there. I'm just getting ready for the FPSF season. FPSF? First Person Shooter Fall season. Easily one of the biggest titles coming to retail this FPSF season will be straight outta EA and DICE. That's why they've figured out exactly what preorder-goodies will be available at each retailer.

While all preorders will receive the "Back to Karkand" classic map pack DLC for free, you're given a choice between GameStop, Best Buy, and Amazon.com or... you know, not preordering and missing out on the incentives. Here's the break down:
  • GameStop: Physical Warfare DLC and free Prima Strategy Guide with PowerUp Rewards card
  • Best Buy: SPECACT Kit and 8 Multiplayer Skins
  • Amazon: Exclusive Multiplayer Dog Tags
In other Battlefield 3 news, DICE Executive Producer Patrick Bach has stated that BF3 will most likely require players to have an online pass to access its multiplayer modes:

The whole idea is that we're paying for servers and if you create a new account there is a big process on how that is being handled in the back end. We would rather have you buy a new game than a used game because buying a used game is only a cost to us; we don't get a single dime from a used game, but we still need to create server space and everything for you.

I prefer buying new games anyways. I just bought a new copy of Crysis 2 despite no online pass. Honestly, is anyone surprised by BF3's online pass plans?

Pre ordered from Gamestop last weekend along with Skyrim. BF3 Is going to take up way too much of my personal time. I'm so excited about being excited over a LARGE war game. Don't get me wrong, I love my COD titles but I need something that plays different and this is it. Cant wait to see what it's like flying the planes and the choppers, but a mounted .50 cal is my go to when traveling from point to point.

Exactly how I feel... BF2 is the ultimate war gaming experience. Don't get me wrong COD, Bad Company, CS... and so on are fun, but they do not immerse you into the world the way BF2 did. There was something absolutely ****ing awesome about getting the most points on a map without having to fire your primary weapon or mowing down squad's as a chopper gunner as your buddy flies you in right over their heads. I'm pre-ordering tomorrow, I just hope BF3 can match up with its younger sibling.

I would drink a pint of Magic Johnson's blood if I could play this game now.

Just an FYI, you can preorder Battlefield 3 off Impulse as well since Gamestop owns that now.
