Best of gamescom Winners

Posted on Thursday, August 18 @ 13:37:27 Eastern by

OK. So we're not live at gamescom like we usually are for these big industry events. Sorry. We're on the FBI no-fly list Our passports expired. But we did manage to bang out a ton of coverage remotely, which you can see here. And even though gamescom isn't over yet, some industry "experts" got together to pick out the very best of the best on display at the event in Cologne, Germany.

Here are the winners:
  • Best in Show: Battlefield 3
  • Best Hardware: PlayStation Vita
  • Best Console Game: FIFA 12 (Seriously? Well, gamescom IS in Europe)
  • Best Mobile Game: Uncharted: Golden Abyss
  • Best Online Game: Star Wars: The Old Republic
  • Best PC Game: Diablo III
  • Best Browser Game: The Sims Social
  • Best Family Game: Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster
While we're not at all surprised that Battlefield 3 takes the cake, we're scratching our heads as to how FIFA 12 beat out every other console game packed into gamescom. My guess? This shit is fixed.

Germany is like.... DICE's backyard. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave journos hands-on with those jets at E3 that they could have won a bunch of those awards.

FIFA 12. Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster. My God I would rather have a root canal done without any anesthetic than play either of those games.

Being european i'm curious what your reactions would have been had a Madden title won best console game? Over here sports, racing and fps are the big game genres for console players, Fifa has always been huge, besides its based on the biggest sport in the world.

Being a Citizen of the good old USA, it would have shocked the crumpets right out of my High tea to have Europeans vote a Madden game anything other than a crashing bore. As for what the rest of the world calls football, I have never gotten sports games and probably never will. Fifa may have always been huge, and “based on the biggest sport in the world.” But that doesn’t mean I have to like it.
