E3: PC or rather about the lack of it

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

Bethesda: "We Clearly Have A New Franchise" With Dishonored

Posted on Wednesday, November 28 @ 09:05:02 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Despite the fact that Dishonored is a brand-new IP that launched extremely late in this console generation, it did incredibly well at both retail and among critics. As such, it appears that the publisher has big plans for the series going forward.

Bethesda PR boss Pete Hines told Destructoid that the future for Dishonored is bright, as the publisher plans to turn Arkane's new IP into a full-fledged franchise. “I can tell you that Dishonored is far exceeding our sales expectations, which is especially cool considering it’s new IP facing a host of well-established franchises this quarter,” he explained.

“We did terrific numbers again this past weekend, both in stores and on Steam, where Dishonored was listed as the number one selling title over the holiday weekend. And Dishonored has really sold well overseas," he added. "So, we’re very pleased and appreciate all the fans that have supported Dishonored and Arkane. We clearly have a new franchise.”

How would you feel about a sequel to Arkane's stealth action adventure game? Are you interested in finding out more about Dunwall or should they explore an entirely different location? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I'm probably the only one not pleased by this news. I LOVED Dishonored, but I felt like its story ended pretty conclusively. If it carries on, I'm afraid it will feel like Bethesda is only milking its success, ala Activision and Ubisoft.

I can see this working best if Dishonored 2 is to Dishonored what BioShock Infinite will be to BioShock.

Agreed. Go with a different locale, different story, characters, etc.

Double ditto. It doesn't have to have anything to do with Corvo, the established mythos of the game is interesting enough. Let me sneak around and fight creepy old ladies some more and I will be sold.

It's possible they could do it like fall out and just use the dogma and pose it from a different character perspective around the same era. I agree though that Corvo should be done...

while the story in the first one did end fairly well, from what i remember there was mention at the start of other places, places that were worried about the city due to the plague & rats etc. it would make sense for the next one to take place somewhere else, possibly somewhere that they are either trading with or at war with and the main dude from the first one is sent there, due to his relationship with the girl who now rules

It was good but it kinda lacked a bit of depth. I know that sounds weird but the story and even the gameplay I feel like could be expanded out a hell of alot more. What I can say is what they did in dishonored they did very well so it still deserves its high grade.

Agreed. It was a great game, but was certainly superficial in many respects. As such, there's loads of potential for improvement with a sequel.

Dunwall is but a speck of a city on Dishonored's world map. I'm opening that, with some much needed resources, the next Dishonored could become more of an open world (or in my mind, an open city) endeavor.

Also, a sort-of prequel about how whatshisfacedoucheMcBaggins started the rat plague could be interesting.

PC. Looks a little better with some better lighting effects and anti-aliasing as well as higher FPS. This is what happens when you take time to make a good game and not rush it! Most IPs that come out are really bad and rushed. I seriously hope I start seeing novels and comics as well for this series.

i like Dishonered a lot but for some reason have only played a few missions. i blame that on not letting myself spend too much time playing games at the moment tho.

i do agree with what some people have commented here; that it was somewhat lacking. what was there was done well, but there could have been more...something.

with a sequel in mind, i feel this is Bethesda's chance to pull an Arkham. as in Arkham Asylum was a great game but Arkham City took the great bits, added more and became a fantastic game.

So, in short - put Batman in Dishonered 2 = Success.

as a side note, i cant be the only one who saw the similarities between Dishonered and Arkham City, right? What with the sneaking around on rooftops, detective vision, teleportation ability which acts like a grappling hook...

I swear that 90% on the time i was perched on a ledge my natural instinct was to glide off

It felt more like Thief meets Half-Life 2 rather than Arkham City. I didn't think of AC at all.
