Bleszinski "Gestating" On New IP, Codenamed Silverstreak

Posted on Thursday, December 13 @ 09:46:34 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Just a few months ago, game designer Cliff Bleszinski shocked the industry by announcing his retirement from Epic Games. However, it appears that he's had enough rest and relaxation since October, as the Gears of War mastermind has revealed he's got a brand-new IP in the works.

Bleszinski told G4 that he's in the early stages of putting together a new project currently codenamed Silverstreak. “My first Transformer was Bluestreak – which was later changed to Silverstreak or something like that – which is the codename of the new IP I’m gestating on slowly,” he said.

Cliff then went on to explain how he hopes to be remembered for more than just his work on Gears of War. “I don’t want the chainsaw gun to be my legacy. Whenever someone puts together a ‘Top 50 Weapons in Video Games’ there’s like the Halo sword, the Lancer, like it’s there with everything else, like Doom BFG and that’s really flattering, but a lot of these kids who have only been playing games for the last however many years, they think that’s the only thing I ever did."

By creating something completely new, Bleszinski is hoping he can break free from being labeled as the chainsaw lancer guy. “They forget about Jazz Jackrabbit, Unreal Tournament that I worked on, things like Bulletstorm, a little bit on Shadow Complex and things like that. Moving forward I would like to work on something new and fresh and kinda redefine my legacy.”

It will be interesting to see what Silverstreak turns out to be. Will it be in line with the shooter-heavy experiences Cliff has created in the past or something radically different? We'll just have to wait and see.

At least it's not code named Brownstreak. I hope Cliffy B tries his hand at console-based adventure gaming.

I had a blast playing Unreal Tournament. I think many modern multiplayer FPS games could be enhanced by adding a nuclear option. The Redeemer was awesome.

Is that an amateur modelling picture???

Unreal Tournament is one of my favourite games ever, and I honestly associate him with that more than Gears.
