Blizzard Pushes Diablo III to Early 2012

Posted on Friday, September 23 @ 07:44:37 Eastern by

Though Blizzard is known for, as they claim, "a sterling record of always hitting its release targets", Blizzard will be pushing back Diablo III to early 2012, as explained by CEO Mike Morhaime:

With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible. However, we didn't put so many years of work into Diablo III to release a game that was almost ready. The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we're taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players. Next year is going to be an incredibly busy one for Blizzard, and we hope an incredibly fun one for Blizzard gamers.

As a result, Blizzard will be extending the closed beta and allow more people with a Battle.net account to participate.

So how many games are they releasing next year now then? Assuming none of them get pushed back to 2013.

    Called it.

“Ho! Ho! Ho! This is Santa Claus, Ranim. I’m sorry but Diablo III won’t be under your tree this year, because Blizzard is still polishing it. You’ll have to wait until 2012. Ho! Ho! Ho!”
