Blizzard Shows Lack Of Confidence In Diablo III

Posted on Friday, February 24 @ 15:37:50 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

It's been over 12 years since Diablo II released, so naturally a few of us are writhing with excitement now that a sequel is upon us. Strangely, Blizzard is now telling us to be less excited. I'm stumped.

The Blizzard Community Manager to end them all, Bashiok, has spoken about people's expectations of Diablo III, and they are a bit concerning. His latest quote started off like this:
I too worry that we won't be able to meet the expectations people have built up for themselves. Part of my job is managing people's expectations, so... eh... stop it. Stop thinking about how awesome this game could be.
Whoa whoa whoa!  You're telling us that we should lower our expectations for one of the most hyped releases of 2012? Come on now! We all like to dream about games being perfect only to find out that they have game-breaking glitches, balance issues, and slew of design problems.
Just imagine it's a new M. Night Shyamalan movie.
I really would rather not.
Sure Sixth Sense was amazing and Unbreakable had it's moments, but this right here is the sequel to The Village ... or The Happening ... or Signs ... or any of the movies besides the two I first mentioned. So just like, lower those expectations, but still definitely buy the game please, and everything will be just fine. K?
Diablo III has been in beta for months now, and feedback has been on the positive side. Chances are that Bashiok is kidding around, but the recent announcement that the game is being delayed to incorporate major design changes, many of which are fundamental gameplay elements, does leave me baffled. I have faith that the game will be great even if only because Blizzard has been consistent over the years. Some might call that blind faith, but I'm willing to gamble.

Bashiok is a PR slag. Diablo 3 is fun to play, but there is only a fraction of the first act to dink around with, basically 40 minutes of content. To be fair, the community was practically feral when Diablo 3 was announced. I would tend to say he just screwed up the point he was trying to make. Which is that there is a lot of entitlement going around in the community.

Well put. Diablo players are a little rabid at times.

It is always hard to meet expectations for something people love, especially a series like Diablo, which people have been waiting for for a while.

I think its healthy to be worried, if they were overconfident then it is more likely something will be wrong.

We should probably just temper our expectation that it will ever release.

I was already planning on doing that. Graphically they both look like World of Warcraft at this point, so I just think Torchlight is going to have better gameplay.

Might as well; the original developers of Diablo and Diablo II made Torchlight and are making Torchlight 2. For all we know, Diablo III might end up the same way as the CoDs that were developed by Treyarch.

Its like finally getting to sleep with the beautiful girl youve had a crush on only to find out shes your cousin, and she has a third nipple.

Sure you nail her anyways but you feel a lil bad about it afterwards.

You're late to this information, GR. And a post about this being pure sarcasm was already posted too.

Plus I'm in the beta. Minus the few minor tweaks, the game feels near done compared to patch 12.

Getting tired of waiting. I've never been an big fan of the franchise but I really wanted to give three a go because it seemed to be worth the day one purchase. :(

I've been waiting to get into the beta or you know even a release date. I loved the Diablo games but 2 makes my eyes bleed when I try and play it on my laptop.

There was a mod that could bring the resolution up a bit more, not fullscreen but at least another step up from the original max size, cant remember the name.

Blizzard games are like the rapture, they give you a date when its coming, that date passes and then they bring out new info on why its going to be further in the future.
