Borderlands Fan Gets Eulogized by Claptrap

Posted on Friday, November 4 @ 10:28:50 Eastern by danielrbischoff

When Michael John Mamaril was taken by cancer at just 22, his friend Carlo reached out to Gearbox Software to ask for a special way to honor his Borderlands-loving pal. The result is embedded below.

Claptrap sends off Michael with a touch of humor and tons of reverence in one of the most heartfelt instances of fan appreciation ever. And when Gearbox says Michael will live on forever in the Borderlands, they mean it. The late fan will be inserted into Borderlands 2 as an NPC.

Thumbs up to both Gearbox and Carlo for remembering this gamer in such an awesome way.

It's awesome when a developer bonds with its fans, and Gearbox has a reputation for that. Don't forget the marriage proposal, that was both awesome, and hilarious.

I never really saw what Gearbox was like even after Borderlands but this really made me smile knowing a company can still care about its fans. Keep it up Gearbox!

Anxious to see what ironic role they give his NPC.
