Bungie Unveils Destiny, Debut ViDoc Inside

Posted on Sunday, February 17 @ 10:40:10 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

After teasing us last week, Bungie has finally pulled back the curtain on their incredibly ambitious new franchise, Destiny. Check out the ViDoc above for a first look.

As previously rumored, Destiny is a sci-fi massively multiplayer first-person shooter. As such, it will be a fully online experience that encourages gamers to play with others and spans a vast array of locales. Sadly, the video is composed predominantly of artwork and shots of the studio, so we'll have to remain patient for an extended length of gameplay footage.

Destiny is set to launch on the Xbox 360, PS3, and "future-generation technology" at some point in the near future. Be sure to keep it locked to GameRevolution in the coming months for more info on this intriguing new game.

I don't think this is quite as "revolutionary" as they're making it out to be.

If they can get it running on a console with minimal instancing, they just maybe.
Otherwise, it'll just be another pseudo-MMOFPS. Still looks nice though.

I have no doubt the finished product will be gorgeous and fun to play. It's just not quite as new as they claim.

I've never heard of an MMOFPS before.

Dust 514. The only difference is that Destiny appears to have a focus on story. The Elder Scrolls MMO has been in the works for a while now as well, though its content is a bit different. See also: M.A.G.

Is the elder scrolls online an FPS? I thought it was a fairly normal MMORPG. I've heard of dust, tho never played it. I always assumed the latency if an MMO would prevent a tight FPS from existing in MMO format.

As with other iterations of the game, Elder Scrolls Online will have first and third-person perspective. Also, Dust has pretty awesome gameplay, and is really great for being F2P. However, there's literally no story... yet?

I figured Planetside 2 would be the immediate first thought for MMOFPS.

Anyway, I never heard anything about TES:Online having FPS, not in the sense that it's active attacking. Pretty sure it's still auto-attack/ability based combat since Bethesda claimed latency issues with accurate live combat (IE every other TES game). Darkfall did it, why can't a monster series like TES do it.

I know the name Planetside 2, but I've never actually played it.

In the gameplay intro video, one of the devs mentions real-time combat. Unless that's changed, which is totally possible...

Looks cool but I try not to get too excited. I don't hype too much anymore until I actually play it or see the review. If it does do well then good for them and for us, sounds like they wanna make this game their next "Halo" title. Let me tell you something, its going to have to be big. They have the talent though, they have made great games in the past.

Same here, although they did technically have a tiny bit of footage in this trailer....of people just walking around (?!?). Have always loved the concept art, but...horrible first impression, if you ask me.

Yeah, I got that "who gives a ****?" feeling when the video ended. They seem to be focusing more on the "revolutionary" aspect, and talking themselves up while discounting several other games that have already explored the genre. I get that they're trying to get across that the game world will essentially control itself, but there was a much better way to get that point across that doesn't involve trying to suck your own dick with praises of having "just enough crazy to pull [it] off."

I'm less than enthusiastic about this game. Honestly, it looks like Halo with different art design. For them to make a game like that, I'm not surprised, it's what they've built their company on. But to try to hype it up as the huge revolutionary game, it feels dishonest.

I'd say you're in no position to call a developer dishonest about a game you know nothing about.

I actually wish this wasn't on current-gen consoles at all. Obviously for the sake of the install-base there is too much money being left on the table if they don't do it. I just feel like the next-gen version will be scaled back in order to make sure that the same game (obviously with crappier graphics) will run on 360/PS3.

You do know there's at least 2 more Halo games coming right? It's just not Bungie making them.

This looks like a Mass Effect and Fallout love child. Though it might not be 'revolutionary,' I am already looking forward to it!

i actually think it looks pretty cool... id love a MMOFPS game with a huge beautiful game world, great story, tons of gameplay hrs... the art is good and you know bungie will make sure the game has a amazing soundtrack...

i would have liked to see some more gameplay, but it was still a nice 1st look...
i do need to see more before i consider buying it though... im sure more will be revealed @ E3... i agree with (reiandcoke) this should really be a next gen only game!
i also feel the same about watchdogs...

to the people saying it looks like halo, your either blind or you just want something to complain about...
i agree with (cereal13killer) it looks alot more like a cross between - (mass effect, rage, fallout)

I just read their interview and they said that it isn't coming to PC because "no one uses mice and keyboards anymore". Really?! Also, they were saying they reinvented the FPS and that's why Halo doesn't belong on PC. The future of FPS is on consoles. Those guys obviously haven't played a PC game in maybe, ever.

Thank the Halo fan boys for bloating that ego. I don't even think Bungie knows Halo 3 is coming to PC soon as well as Halo 2 being re-released for Windows 7/8. I don't know where devs get that, "Mice and keyboards are no longer being used for gaming."
