Call of Duty: Black Ops Earns Award For Best Ending... Ever

You've played a lot of games in your day, and chances are that there are a few that you remember for not only their great story delivery, but memorable ending(s) as well. So what would top your list? Metal Gear Solid 3's salute to The Boss? Maybe even Final Fantasy X's revelation with Tidus and Jecht? Whatever it is, I'm willing to bet that it isn't a Call of Duty game, but that's exactly what won an award from Guinness World Records.

Guinness World Records has declared Call of Duty: Black Ops as the game with the best ending of all-time. 13,000 people were polled, most of which clearly hadn't started gaming until two years ago, and the favorites were compiled into a 50 game list. Now the question is, where did Guinness find these 13,000 people to represent the entire industry? The fact that Halo: Reach and Modern Warfare 2 also made the top fave says it all.

    I'd comment on how much fail that list is, but quite frankly does anyone really care that much about the Guiness World Records anymore? As a child, I enjoyed reading them for interesting trivia, now it's overladen with people trying to be famous doing honestly pointless tasks.

    Yeah, I agree with you, except perhaps I'll also put Fallout 2 ties with Braid for best ending ever. By the way, I consider Braid's "secret", so to speak, ending, as the best, not the regular one.

    These are 13,000 people I don't want to meet, but Black Ops did have a pretty spectacular ending. Still wouldn't call it the greatest of all time, though. And since when where Guiness World Records a matter of opinion? World is dumb.

    I agree that this list doesn't matter at all. Most of all for me, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II should NOT be on any top ending list. At least the first Force Unleashed had an ending that could have fit into Star Wars continuity. The second one had none of that for either ending.

    Best endings? Ace Combat 0 has one of the best, for sure. Same with The Witcher and Nier. And of course MGS3.
    Hell, these games should be in the top 10. But the kind of people who vote on this are the people who care about Guinness, which should say all that needs to be said.

    The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? How the hell did that get on the list? I love the game, but one of the best endings? (Does the game really have an end?)

    Personal favourite is Planescape Torment. So much depth for a charector without a name. Fallout 2 was pretty epic. Dragon age and mass effect as more recent titles. There's others, but these would be my top.

    The cliffhanger was a bit too big for me, but I still think it was great.

    That list, is not a good list. But, if I had to pick from just those titles, my top three would be (in no particular order):

    Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
    Red Dead Redemption
    Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

    I'm not sure how Oblivion and Fallout 3 made it on the list. They were both great games but storyline was not one of their strong points. As to Black Ops, I never made it past that stupid barrel scene in the Vietnam setting. I couldn't stand having to follow along with their silly script, so I pretty much gave up on the campaign and stuck to multiplayer. Maybe the game has a great ending, but I doubt that I'll ever know.

    i put many many hours into Black Ops, online and replaying the campaign. i cant remember how it ends tho.
    i have to say though, i really did enjoy MW2's ending. thought it was pretty cool.
    and yes, as always, RDR.

    wow...I'm impressed...The Guiness guys should get a mention in their own book for setting the world record for retard-finding...

    Good endings?
    well, CoD W@W had a very good ending , best of all CoD's imo (haven''t finished BO though)

    Bioshock is a given, great game, great story great ending(s)

    Starcraft 2 ending was very good as well

    hmmm...curse my pathetic memory...*starts checking his game library

    Warcraft 3 + Frozen Throne
    KotOR 1 of course (i still don't get the second one)
    HAH! Shadow Complex alternative ending FTW!

    Homeworld and Chrono Trigger both have easily the best stories ever told in gaming. Who the **** cares about the awards, Foo Fighters got the metal award, why bother?

    clearly Mastodon should have won that, as they destroy all other nominations. as for the list, Red Dead should have been top 5, and other than that nothing made much sense

    Mastodon couldn't of won because Pantera are(were) the greatest, despite the death of Dimebag. Pantera? yeah, mother****en Pantera.
