Capcom Assures Fans That DMC Won't Be Disappointing

Posted on Saturday, October 13 @ 08:58:48 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

If you're having second thoughts about DMC: Devil May Cry, Capcom would like a word with you.

DMC's Producer Manager, Karl Reader, has full confidence in the game being as compelling if not even more awesome than previous games in the series. He stated the following during a panel at NYCC 2012:

You won't be disappointed, I assure you.

Now you're probably wondering how he's so sure. Thankfully, he elaborated:

You're still going to get that aerial combat and combat chaining, but at the same time we've added a ton of new stuff. The new characters, Kat, being one of them, is a member of the Order - a vigilante group who, with the help of Vergil and Dante, are trying to take down the demons.

I spent some time with the E3 demo and I can say that he isn't far from the truth. The game has tons of fluid combos and weapon switching to offer the hardcore action types, and noticeable adjustments to dispel the monotony. Really, it felt great to play, but there was no way to tell if the entire experience will be well-rounded leaving us waiting until January to find out if Capcom is puffing smoke.

However, remember that Capcom said the same thing about Resident Evil 6, and look how that turned out. If you're a fan of the Devil May Cry series you may want to tread carefully with pre-orders unless you're 100% sold.

Don't care. It could be a great game but i hate that there are unanswered questions for DMC4 and this is not even in the same universe, its like a waste of time. I still dislike Dante's and Vergil's new looks too. I won't be getting this one.

You better be right about this Capcom. If this thing bombs then I will have lost all respect for Capcom.

I dont care about your socks and your comparison doesn't make any sense, besides we probably been playing the same Capcom games for years now. I don't want to have to give up on the guys that practically entertained me my whole childhood, Street Fighter, Resident EVil, DMC, Dino Crisis MegaMan. I loved all those games and it sucks seeing them in the situation they're, but I don' want to give up on them yet.

I don't mean the games are bad. I just think that Capcom, the company itself, doesn't treat it's customers with respect. So why respect them? They may have good games, but they are jerks to their fans. Sorry about the age dig. I was just being my curmudgeonly 49 year old self.

For some fans, the very existence of this reboot is disappointing, regardless of the quality of the final product. I think Capcom should have made DMC 5 instead. I loved Devil May Cry 4, and would have liked to see it's storyline move forward.

And then, I am immediately reminded of the Alex's article about sequels. Especially on how we shouldn't judge a game by a reboot or if they add a number in the end least till we play the darn game. With that in mind, i'm gonna try this game and see if GR is right on this.

Oh and Dante's new look? He actually looks like someone... WHO DRESSES NORMALLY! Thank you capcom!

Yeah, I don't mind his new look at all. Actually, he looks almost exactly the same for me. However, his animations are far superior, now.

I agree, I like the new Dante. He doesn't look emo, if anything, the old Dante looked emo.

I am just really sick of people *****ing about this game. If the game is good FINE more power to Capcom. I was sick of DMC after I played 4. It was so repetitive I couldn't finish the game. I think the series really needs this reboot. The only people who wouldn't want that are people who can sit and play every Final Fantasy game that comes out and not complain that the series is old. Seriously, who cares about his looks. I remember the GameSpot comments BLEW UP over the announcement of this game. People like that need to grow up. Go back and play the other DMC games, its not like Capcom is forcing everyone to turn in all their other copies so only this new one exists.

It's not really a reboot if you're just rehashing gameplay from Heavenly Sword.

Its a reboot regardless. The series seriously needs it, I don't know why people are so scared of reboots. If it fails usually the developers go back to the roots, some times not. Things have to move on, I guess some people are just afraid of change.

I'd rather not have another DMC than to have this. They are trying to mimic the gameplay, but it most certainly seems to lack what made Devil May Cry what it was.

Dante is now half-angel, half-demon. Which most likely only a story aspect to justify the ability switching. Vergil's a good guy...makes no sense. It seems that it has degenerated into "us versus the demons" and I highly doubt anyone will actually care about the plot. Sounds really cookie cutter. Do you remember when the new Crash games came out and everyone looked like idiots and the games really sucked? Well, here we are. No one is afraid of reboots, with change come backlash. There's no avoiding that. You seem to have a problem with people disliking the fact that a series that they really enjoy is being gutted by the developers who aren't really all that great to begin with.

Even if the game is great and is game of the year status the fan boys will NEVER be happy. That's my point. Unless it is exactly like the last three games they will never happy. That is boring, and encourages sequelitis. All we can do is wait, and if it is bad go play the other games, if not, well most fan boys probably won't play this anyway. Fan boys ultimately ruin game series because they can't except change. They get so comfortable with sequel after sequel that when something new comes a long they freak the hell out.
