Capcom Lowers Sales Projections To Accomodate Poor RE6 Sales And Monster Hunter 4 Delay

Posted on Wednesday, December 19 @ 08:27:07 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

While the latest entry in Capcom's popular horror franchise started off strong, it didn't take long for sales to plummet, as the overall performance of Resident Evil 6 has failed to live up to the publisher's expectations. Couple that with the fact that Monster Hunter 4 has been delayed, and you've got one underwhelming financial year for Capcom.

As such, the company has been forced to lower sales projections for the fiscal year ending March 31st. The initial projection was 105,000 million yen, which has since been lowered to 93,500 million, marking an 11% decrease.

“Sales of the major new title Resident Evil 6 were initially strong, but subsequently weakened. As a result, sales for this title are certain to fall short of the plan,” Capcom explained in its financial report. The publisher also discussed Monster Hunter 4's delay, saying that the extra time will allow the studio to “Further raise the quality of the game.”

Should Capcom rethink its action-heavy approach to Resident Evil? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

RE5 was a fluke (in RE terms). It sold well because it was fun, but an authentic RE experience it was not. I want to work for a major publisher (just bug their corporate headquarters?) to find out what is said in some meetings so I can find out what the hell is said to get publishers like Capcom to stray from the genre they literally defined in order to emulate other gaming experiences. It blows my mind.

I realize that multiplayer and online co-op are appealing to game developers these days but I don't think EVERY game needs it. I just can't get behind Resident Evil anymore after seeing what they did with 6. When it comes to the Resident Evil franchise we need a survival horror game we don't need a splintered story that tries to weave 3 to 4 game genres into one for the sake of online multiplayer. Anybody I know who actually made it through every play-through has told me that Leon's story-line was the best one to play. Why? Because it was the one that felt the most like survival horror.

Capcom never knows what they're doing. They are basically Aperture Science minus the cool factor.
