Capcom Not Allowing Game Save Reset for Resident Evil 3DS

Posted on Monday, June 27 @ 12:46:26 Eastern by

All versions of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D have been found not to allow players to reset their save data, with the following line in the manual clearing stating that "saved data on this software cannot be reset".

One reason Capcom would do this could be the fact that this is partly a multiplayer game, and they don't want to see people resetting their data to screw up the leaderboards. But the more cutting culprit would be that they want to restrict used game sales by stopping trading altogether. I mean, you can't give this game to anybody else, even as a gift, unless you want them playing off your save data...

Is this measure too invasive?

So, if I play this game now and finish it within a week, if I want to replay it in a month or so, I'll need to buy a whole new copy?

Well, typing "rage" in all caps and misspelling it a little, shortly followed by many exclamation points and several ones, does not accurately depict my anger towards CAPCOM right now.

Going too far now, the industry needs its own "reset."

The fact that this is even an option for CAPCOM disgusts me, and the best/worst part, we as the players who purchase and keep them in business have no say in the matter.

I'm wondering how this "feature" even got approved..."hey! Let's make it so that our customers can't restart a new game after they're done!" Wtf capcom?

And what happens on the off chance that save data gets corrupted BEFORE you finish the game? Greatest video game analogy of blue balls I've ever seen...

Hang on now guys. I'm playing it right now for review, and while I agree that it's stupid to not even include the option to clear data, it doesn't really affect a game like this. There's no story mode, just a series of RE Mercenaries levels that you can replay as many times as you want to improve your score. If you want to "replay" the game, all you need to do is just go back to the first level and keep moving along from there.

Seems like a pretty good reason to not buy the game to me.
