Capcom Wrong About Why Ultimate MvC3 Doesn't Have Mega Man

Posted on Friday, July 22 @ 12:48:50 Eastern by

After the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 roster was partially leaked, Capcom producer Ryota Niitsuma spoke to Siliconera not only to confirm the leak, but to explain why Mega Man is not in the game despite fan requests:

I’m sorry, there is no Mega Man in Ultimate. We had a lot of requests from fans for Mega Man or at least one of them to be in the game. Out of all of the requests we got for Capcom characters, he just didn’t enter the top part of the ranking. Unfortunately, he didn’t make the cut.

Some digging, however, on Capcom's own Capcom-Unity blog, reveals that this just isn't the case. A mod named Zonic on their forums posted the following poll results (on the Capcom side) of who fans would like to see in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 as DLC (click image to enlarge):

Near the bottom of the thread, the mod admits that this survey isn't endorsed by Capcom in a disclaimer, but in an update, Zonic mentions that the results were noticed by Capcom's Sven:

So either Producer Niitsuma just didn't know about these poll results or he simply ignored them. Either way, Capcom is trying to act as if it's the lack of fan support that Mega Man isn't in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, despite the fact that it has a stage completely dedicated to (say it with me) Mega Man Legends.

Capcom needs to be more careful about what they say, or they just might find out that they're right about, well, a lack of fan support.

I wonder if Capcom is trying to destroy (or ignore, if you will) anything Keiji Inafune has made (or been apart of) for the company....

Seppuku is a Japanese tradition, but it is done with swift cut not ten thousand little nicks.

Not if the sample size is large and the target audience is right on, both of which this poll has. Phoenix Wright (#2 in the poll), Strider (#3), Frank West (#5), and Vergil (#6) are all confirmed for the next installment, so Capcom seems to be quite in line with what the fans want in Ultimate MvC3... except for Mega Man.

The demographic of the poll is then Capcom fans who love their company of choice so much that they're also forum members on Capcom-Unity. Not every Capcom fan needs to be a part of the official poll for it to be valid; otherwise, all polls for all questions would be inherently purposeless. The only question is here is the margin of error, which considering the sample size, is well within acceptable means. I suspect that if you don't care for Mega Man, you would have merely voted for someone else, which the poll already reflects in its numbers proportionally.

I won't be surprised if it's because of the departure of Kenji Inafune, that's why they don't want to use anything Megaman related

I mean... it's not like zero counts or anything... Grumble...

I'm more shocked that Gene had such a huge requests and not one official comment as to why he's not in the game.
