Company of Heroes 2 Officially Announced

Posted on Monday, May 7 @ 14:03:33 Eastern by

THQ, via press release, has finally revealed the sequel to Company of Heroes, a critically successful strategy title released in 2006. Company of Heroes 2 will take place on the Eastern Front, specifically the Russian Red Army in the 1941 defense against the Nazi invasion on Moscow. From there, you must advance through northeastern Europe until you reach the walls of Berlin.

Utilizing Relic Entertainment's own Essence 3.0 EngineTM, the game will feature "innovative Dynamic Battle Tactics, increased graphical fidelity, and new environment destruction, ultimately putting the player in control with new Commander Abilities".

Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President of Core Games, is planning a long future for the title:
We are excited to announce a sequel to one of THQ’s best loved properties. Company of Heroes 2 will deliver an amazing strategy experience along with a strong post-launch digital content plan that enhances and expands the product’s lifecycle.
Company of Heroes 2 is slated for PC in early 2013.

If Dawn of War 2 is anything to go by, then you are right on thinking that. The amount of DLC for that game and its expansions is astounding. Company of Heroes is great, but why are they exploiting that franchise? The original is pretty long in tooth, but I think people still play it simply because there have been no noteworthy classical build and destroy RTS games since. I would have been infinitely more excited to hear about a new Homeworld game, but I guess sci-fi just doesn't have the mainstream appeal of Nazis.

Sorry to break thios to you, but DoW2 and DoW2CR dont have ANY dlc for them, not an astounding amount, the only dow2 game that even has dlc is DoW2R, and even then aqside from teh skin packs which arnt even much at all, there really isnt a whole lot thats important, last stand gear pack plus tau commander, every other piece of DLC is extra and completely irrelevant.
