Crystal Dynamics Focusing On Lara Reboot, Not Returning To Guardian of Light

Posted on Wednesday, March 6 @ 11:13:33 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Remember that charming co-op take on Tomb Raider? Well it looks like Crystal Dynamics has no intention of returning to the style seen in Guardian of Light, as the team is now fully committed to continuing the origin story of Lara set up by their recently released Tomb Raider reboot.

In an interview with OXM, creative director Noah Hughes explained:

Guardian was a great opportunity to explore things that we may not have done in the pillar franchise titles, but in that case it was co-op. There are no plans to do anything in that series but it was a great opportunity to do something a little bit outside of the core.

With regard to what's next for the studio and Lara, Hughes went on to add, “Without knowing exactly what adventures she’s going on, our intent is to carry forward from here. Other than a brief detour into her origins, we kind of like the idea of taking her story forward from this point.”

Are you excited for more Tomb Raider as we enter the next generation of gaming? Let us know in the comments below.

I'm absolutely loving the new TR. My favorite games this year so far (that might change once BioShock: Infinite comes out). I'm so glad they moved away from the previous Lara experiences. They were starting to get dull and just felt too...unrealistic. I actually wrote a first impressions on the first 2 hours of TR and how I feel towards the change and evolution of the series.

I started playing last night for a bit and got up to the part where she hunts...But man if I can't stop focusing on that cement ponytail attached to her head. It is just so shitily designed

It's like they made it shitty on purpose to make people buy AMD cards. It's really the most awful looking thing in that game and it's very jarring when everything else looks good.

The fact that the hair effects thing still works on Nvidia cards, but inexplicably slows the framerate down to single digits means I'm pretty sure it should work fine, but they went out of their way to break it. The reason PhysX doesn't work on AMD cards is because Nvidia has specific parts of their cards dedicated to running it, but the reverse isn't true with AMD and the hair thing.

    That's a damn shame!!!
I really enjoyed guardians of light, it was a fun & unique coop experience...
I really enjoy quality arcade releases, it sucks losing one...
Hopefully they will change their minds in a few years...
