Danish News Channel Accidentally Uses Assassin's Creed Image Of Damascus

Posted on Monday, March 11 @ 13:10:08 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Danish news channel TV2 has mistakenly used footage from Assassin's Creed when reporting on the current conflict in Syria. The news outlet used the game's digital representation of a 720 year-old Damascus.

Jacob Nybroe, the channel's head of news, confirmed that the image projected behind news anchor Cecilie Beck was in fact from Ubisoft's incredibly popular time-traveling franchise. Knowing that, it certainly does make the photo above look quite humorous.

Is the image really that believable? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

News media are just lazy or lazier than they were before. That or they figure their viewers are too stupid to know what a city in another country looks like.

I say "stupid" is more accurate. At least in my country, reporters can't think straight nor talk well, and "news" is way more fluff than informative; wouldn't be surprised at all it this was a world trend.

I do remember there has been other times where a news outlet takes a sensational story from the internet, spruce it up, then pass it off as true, even if the source was total bullshit

It looks pretty convincing, besides the fact that there's a pole protruding from that tower for no apparent reason.

The game looks that good even 5 years later. Someone just Googled "Damn ask us"...I mean "Damascus" and picked the first 1080p picture.

I would hope this was the set designers giving a secret wink to gamers out there.
But I bet its just then being lazy.

I recently read a Cracked article about a handful of these types of news mistakes. The lesson: news companies think being first is more important than being accurate.

That reminds me of when Kim Yong Jim died and the news in Ireland showed a clip of Team America World Police

Reminds me when ITV (a TV channel in the UK) launched its new, hard hitting documentary series. The first episode was about the IRA and they had 'footage' of them firing weapons and even shooting down a helicopter.

Except the footage was from Arma 2.
