E3: PC or rather about the lack of it

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

Dark Souls Claims 1.5 Million Souls, Mostly North Americans

Posted on Wednesday, November 2 @ 06:51:03 Eastern by

Via a recent announcement by From Software and Namco Bandai, Dark Souls has burned away the humanity of 1.5 million souls worldwide, at least according to shipped numbers. They've also revealed the distribution of satisfying masochism by region:

Japan - 370,000
North America - 620,000
Europe - 470,000
Asia - 40,000

By some strange twist of fate, North Americans love this challenging game more than Japanese people. I have no idea how that works. Maybe it's the armor or that Dark Souls wasn't available on Xbox 360 in Japan. Who really knows? I'm too busy dying to find out.

Should be noted that for Japan, that 370k figure is bighugelarge though. The Yakuza games -- one of the most popular console franchises here -- tend to hit about that number in their first month or so. Proportionally, it seems the sales are about even, really.

I'm also buying Dark Souls in USA, although I'm not from there, so there's yet another reason for that.

Doing a comparison of sales without taking into account population is a statistical mistake of the highest order.

    Japan - 370,000 units sold
North America - 620,000 units sold

    Japan pop. - 127,960,000
    North America pop. - 347,173,000 (USA pop. - 312,538,000 + Canada pop. - 34,635,000)

    Sales per one million population:
    Japan - 2891 units sold/million population
    North America - 1787 units sold/million population

QED Dark Soles is more popular in Japan than North America.

    Professor tiny has spoken.

Of course the Japanese are more masochistic, didn't have to wait for Dark Souls sales to prove that though, just look at history: suicidal American - gunshot to the head, suicidal Japanese; harakiri.

I bought it in Europe. Stuck between fighting the four kings in new londo ruins, seath the scaleless (but actually getting through crystal caves is its own nightmare) and nito in the land of the giants... I absolutely love this game! 70+ hours of my time has been sunk into it... really abnormal for me to spend this amount of time on a game!
