DayZ Developers Get To Pretend They're Zombies

Posted on Friday, February 22 @ 19:00:00 Eastern by

This new video blog from Bohemia Interactive, the studio behind the wildly successful DayZ mod, answers important questions. "How do you eat a brain?" "How does a zombie run?" "Why don't zombies wear golfballs?"

Dean Hall, the original developer of DayZ, and his team are gearing up to release the full standalone version of DayZ and part of that process involves motion-capture work for all the zombies in game. Even if you're not interested in zombie games (there are so many of them!) maybe a bunch of goofy developers pretending to be zombies can convince you to give the mod a try.

We'll have more on DayZ as it nears standalone release. If you've been playing the mod, share one of your survivor stories in the comments!

Me and a friend were exploring an airport on the northern part of the map. He went ahead to the air control tower while I was checking out the hangers. I messed up and got chased around by the zombies. So I ran into the hanger to take care of them. I turned around and saw another person in a corner looking at me with an AK in his hand. I knew it wasn't my friend because the player was using the default model and my friend uses a black man's model. I looked back and for awhile we just stared at each other with weapons in hand.

Well, I guess I pulled the trigger first and unloaded bullets into his face. I told my friend and we looted the guy's corpse. I felt really bad because he wasn't exactly hostile and to this day I felt guilty about it. I wished I could pull a George Lucas and say that the other guy shot first and I was just defending myself... But I know I shot first and it was either me or him. My friend later said, "Don't worry. It gets easier every time..." Well, it doesn't.

I watched these 3 British guys playing the game and they hijacked this other player of his tractor trailer. Was pretty damn funny.

Found an AK-47and 4 full magazines (AKM) and started gleefully chopping zombies down like firewood on semi auto. Turned around to see the Chernarus Village Green Preservation Society bearing down on me like a swarm of ants in one of those nature videos. Panicked full auto firing into the crowd as I hoofed out of town... Died in a crappy little barn about a half mile from where I first found what I considered to be the "I Win" button. Been playing much more cautious ever since.

Haha, I wonder who left that there? I know weapons spawn around the map, but I don't know if the game would generate that kind of firepower...
