GAMING NEWSDayZ Standalone Completely "Redone", New Screenshots Show AmbitionPosted on Monday, February 18 @ 12:09:00 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack
![]() A little extra time in game development goes a long way. The developers of the standalone DayZ game, who also developed the original, have posted an update explaining why the game was recently delayed. It turns out that they felt the need to be more ambitious and decided to completely restructure the title without the use of any assets from its predecessor. Here's an excerpt from the blog post on their site: Consequently, the game will take additional time to finish. On the plus side, it has a greater chance of being the massively multiplayer zombie title that the world has been aching for—there's so much potential here. There's a chance that the failure of The War Z, a direct competitor, has reduced the sense of urgency at Bohemia Interactive. A couple of new images have been posted which show some of the work Bohemia Interactive has completed thus far, and they show hints of the original mod's inspiration, but with far greater fidelity. Remember, you'll be walking around these areas with zombies and other players who would like nothing more than to kill you and steal your weapons. The dense foliage and diverse structures should provide the perfect setting for such an arrangement. ![]() ![]() More from the Game Revolution Network Comments

The game looked really fun and as original as a game about something as old and played as zombies could be, but if they can't address the PKing and camping that I saw, it would lose its luster quickly.

Some people love that idea, but I sure don't. I'd play a generic FPS if I wanted to be shot over and over again.

If you stick to servers with around servers with 20 - 30 people, and avoid the big cities you'll be fine.
Though, you can always download one of the modded maps/gamemodes and change how the game works. If you want the zombies to be a /real/ threat, DayZ Origins is quite good for that.

It just sounds like griefing is to a point that it wouldn't be fun to play.
If this releases as stand alone and gets even a semi-decent review I am 100% picking it up on a Steam sale.
