Dead Space Co-op Created Because Single-Player Was Too Scary

Posted on Friday, July 20 @ 11:25:54 Eastern by

EA Games marketing boss Laura Miele, in a quote with CVG UK, has revealed that concern of the frightening single-player of Dead Space 1 and 2 contributed to the creation of co-operative play for Dead Space 3:
We were hearing feedback that they love the thriller game, but it was pretty scary, and the obvious next step was that they wanted to play with someone. So we introduced co-op into the game.
Luckily, this won't mean that Dead Space 3 will be less scary, or at least that what's being suggested:
The horror of Dead Space is still all there. It's still true to its roots and no less scary, but people felt far more comfortable playing it with someone else than they did doing it on their own.

Personally, I would rather go to scary movie with my husband rather than sit at home with the lights out watching one on my own. We're looking for that to reach out to consumers that perhaps were not open to Dead Space 1 and 2.

Funny, I would rather watch a scary movie alone at home in the dark. Otherwise what's the point?

Especially if the other person is a talker during the movie. (My friend did this. It was annoying.)

Supposedly it was something that they wanted to implement in the first game but couldn't figure out how. I'll probably play through in the singleplayer campaign and then find a friend with the game and do the co-op campaign.

Dead Space was really the only scary one, 2 had it's moments and 3 looks like it might have the stuff jumping out moments but I doubt it will ever go back to being as good as the original. I do like the new necromorphs I've seen so far, I hope that there are a lot more.

As long as the solo campaign is intact and no dummy partner a la RE:5, I will be happy. I loved Dead Space 1 and 2. I am psyched for 3.

The downside to Dead Space 3 is the whole jump in at any time, and the one ammo supply. Where is the challenge? Ohh I am stuck on this part come help me...

Watch it all be pop-scares. Hell, at least with a second player you won't have to worry so much about aiming. Probably.

Bro that's pretty obviously his collar. Scarves tend not to float a few inches off your neck, at least the ones I've bought.

He wears fur because the necromorphs he'll be fighting are the guys from PETA. It's a plot element.

I enjoy the fact that single player is scripted differently to co-op, so you wont have those silly AI moments like RE5. I see no harm as long as they lose focus on the single player, I'd like to hope that is their priority...although it probably isnt. I also hope human unitologist enemies aren't frequent.

...as long as they DONT* lose focus...
