Devil May Cry Demo Available Today

Posted on Tuesday, November 20 @ 10:42:44 Eastern by Keri_Honea

Can't wait to sample some new Devil May Cry? Capcom has released the demo for the upcoming game on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 today. DmC will launch on January 15th for consoles and sometime later at a currently undisclosed date for PC.

According to Capcom, "Players will be able to sample the combat and weapons that can be found in the main game, including Dante’s trusty Rebellion and Ebony & Ivory, as well as the all new Arbiter and Osiris across two action packed levels, including an epic boss battle with the female demon Succubus."

Players who complete the demo will unlock the "Son of Sparta" difficulty level upon game purchase, no matter what difficulty they play the demo on. Trailer for the demo is below.

I may be nitpicking, but in DMC, it's never been Sparta. Always Sparda. Sons of Sparda. :(

I actually don't mind the "new, new" Dante. When they first showed off DmC (as in, the very first original trailer) I HATED the new Dante design. The emo hair (that looks like the producer of the game or whoever he is), how he smokes cigarettes (no offense to anyone who does :P) and how ridiculously thin they made him. And his "I'm Batman" gravelly voice? "MY NAME IS DANTE."

The re-design of the, er, new design looks and sounds a lot better. I quite like the personality he has in this game. I've yet to play the demo but... something to download tonight. Either I'll like it, or I'll cry about it on the Interwebz.

I love the combat. It feels fresh while maintaining the DMC vibe. I would have appreciated an autoface button (like R1 in the old games), but the game still works well without it. That boss fight (FUCKYOU!) kicked my ass a lot, too. I like that kind of challenge.

Is that the first level? I really hope that isn't the actual first level, because if that's how the present the plot of the game to you....then wow.

As for the gameplay itself...it's nice. Not a big fan of holding the shoulder buttons to change weapons, as it was just to justify the whole angel/demon thing. It kinda makes combat to jumbled and button mashy. The art style is awful...but better than DMC4.

I finally got my grubby little hands on the demo. Damn you PSN for giving the demo to Australia one day later.

Personally... I actually liked it! I'm a fan of the Devil May Cry games and I enjoyed it. The combat is familiar yet at the same time it feels new, it was quite fun alternating between the angel and demon form weapons. I also quite like the setting and strangely... I have gotten used to Dante's new look. I HATED his original new look (where he looked like a skinny emo druggy) but this nails it, his appearance really blends well with his personality.

The plot is intriguing as well and I have to admit, I am willing to bet this incarnation of Devil May Cry will have not only a better storyline than the previous games, but also a more understandable storyline... I originally really liked Devil May Cry 4 but overtime, I grew to understand just how paper thin and dumb the plot actually was... plus Nero was so, you know, not explained.
