LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

Everything I Learned About Call of Duty: Ghosts Last Week
I wasn't allowed to talk about the new Infinity Ward game last week when I met with Activision, and I don't have much to say now that Xbox One spilled the beans.

Did the New Xbox Already Arrive At EA?

Posted on Friday, May 6 @ 14:32:30 Eastern by

Phew! It's really starting to heat up here! No, seriously, it's hot outside. We're well into Spring and even further into Summer. That means everyday brings us closer to E3 2011. If you're into games, you already know that there's a ton of buzz surrounding the industry's biggest conference. Today's big rumor is that Microsoft have already locked down the hardware specs for the Xbox 360's successor. Crazy!

The Xbox 720, Xbox 3, Nextbox... whatever you want to call it, the rumors are flying today as a source apparently outside of EA but in the know about a development house the publisher owns has spread the word that Microsoft's next generation console is already in developer hands.

This next generation Microsoft console will supposedly get a surprise E3 reveal, presumably in order to steal some light from Nintendo's own next-generation hardware. Develop writes:

EA developers are getting to grips with the tech to create first-generation software.

"Quite often when new consoles come around they're packaged into a PC shell, but actually what's inside is an entirely new console," a senior, trusted, well-placed source said.

Senior? Trusted? Well-placed? Sounds like this guy knows what he's talking about! Reign in that excitement. Microsoft and EA have obviously declined to comment on the rumor. Apparently, Develop's source doesn't even work for either company! How is this guy "in-the-know"?

You can bet that these rumors will get cleared up in the second week of June when Game Revolution head's to LA for E3 2011. We'll be sure to bring you the latest developments leading into and through gaming's biggest show.

So Nintendo is putting out a new console, and within weeks of that announcement, Microsofts new console is "leaked"... I give it 2 months before Sony also "leaks" such information. Hopefully including some statement about how the new Playstation will be hacker proof.

Am I the only one that thinks it's just too damn soon for a new round of consoles? The PS3 and 360 have another good five years left on them before they start to show their age. Since they're no longer the only kids in town with motion controls, Nintendo had to do something, the Wii looks more than a bit weak in comparison to the other two. A new console put out by either Sony or MS is just too soon though, and I could see a new console by either company going the way of the Dreamcast.

Trusted, well-placed...sounds like XBox needs to re-evaluate his trustworthiness...or thank him for the timely leak.

@TurinAlexander: Yes, it's time for Nintendo, but Microsoft and Sony need to cool their jets. If they leap frog Nintendo then any market share Nintendo builds in its early start will be destroyed by the latest tech.

All the companies are working together. They are doing there best to get as much life out of each console as possible and basically getting us to buy all the systems over a long period of time. They are also working with gamestop to ensure we pay full price for games and get less return out of preowned games.

I have to agree with TurinAlexander on this one, although probably due more to the fact that I will feel obligated to spend another $500 on a new console even though I can't afford it. The Wii was showing it's age from day one because it runs on Gamecube hardware and now the demographics Nintendo targeted (old people, families, etc) have lost interest in the motion technology. Although a surprise reveal by Microsoft or Sony would take the wind right out of Nintendo's big Mario sails

I was under the impression that Sony cancelled their PS4 project earlier this year.

A REAL Ninty console (not a toy) will all their franchises and a new Microsoft console that SHOULD be backwards compatible (apparently DVDs don't cut it anymore, LA Noire anyone?). If this is all true, I have to start saving a lot!
E3 will be very interesting indeed.
