Dragon's Dogma Sequel In The Works

Posted on Monday, June 25 @ 13:20:06 Eastern by Keri_Honea

Capcom's RPG Dragon's Dogma has been a surprising (and welcome) success, and it looks like it has been so successful, it warrants a sequel. At least, that is what Capcom has told its investors in Japan. More specifically, Capcom is "nuturing" the game into a franchise.

According to Capcom's recent press release, Dragon's Dogma has shipped (not sold) over a million copies worldwide, making it the studio's 55th title to do so. "Dragon's Dogma is part of Capcom's basic strategy of establishing game franchises through the creation of new brancds. This game was developed with the goal of creating another pillar of earnings for Capcom alongside Monster Hunter and Sengoku Basara," Capcom said.

You can't get much more blunt than that.

Dragon's Dogma is in my must-play list for this summer, but I've heard nothing but good things about it. For those who have played it, are you looking forward to a sequel?

Keri, a sequel is definitely in order. They did a lot of great things but also had a bunch of little issues that kept the game from being great. Now if Capcom can produce a sequel that matches or exceeds the original in pre-dlc length and depth that would be great...but some how I think Capcom will try to pimp the IP leading to some 30 plus on disc dlc at launch for the second iteration. No big deal though...

I'd rather they keep quiet about how much the game sold or whatever. There's never any hype nowadays.

Like...if Halo 2 were confirmed a few months after CE.

Too bad some games ship a million and everyones happy while others ship a million and the company goes out of business.

Yes you are correct, although I was alluding specifically to KoA: Reckoning, which sold over 1 million copies. Lots of factors in play of course, it's just too bad since I think that studio had alot of potential.
