EA Boss Says "You'll See Mirror's Edge 2"

Posted on Wednesday, June 8 @ 17:59:08 Eastern by

Ahh, E3, a time for new games, new previews, new announcements, and A PERSONAL VENDETTA. If you know me at all, you'll know that I'm a staunch supporter of EA and Dice's experiment, Mirror's Edge. Loved that game! Some people didn't. I catch a lot of flak for being so fond of the title, but I also know I'm not alone.

That's why I'm happy to say that EA Games Boss Frank Gibeau has all but sent out the press release about Mirror's Edge 2. The executive told GameTrailers that we'll "see that combination, I'm sure."

We haven't killed Mirror's Edge. We're actively looking at how to bring it back in the right way. We love that franchise. The DICE guys really created something I think special the first time around. You've got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one and that's what we're working on.

I spoke with Dice today about the possibility about a sequel to Mirror's Edge but their focus was understandably on Battlefield 3.

Am I the only old-timer who gets put in a weird place hearing EA execs using language like "created something special", "looking to bring it back the right way", or "have got to have a big idea". I still haven't fully adjusted to EA being a positive, encouraging publishing environment for game developers. Hopefully Activision will someday imitate their arc.

It's great news to hear that this game still might happen ( I know he said 'will', but I remain cautiously optimistic). I absolutely loved the first game, might not have been everyone's taste, but it was a truly unique experience to me and I loved every minute of it.

I really enjoyed Mirror's Edge. I really hope that a sequel shows up soon.
