EA Delivers Battlefield 3 and BF 2 Nostalgia Direct
Posted on Friday, May 27 @ 11:32:16 Eastern by Daniel Bischoff
I spent a lot of time with Battlefield 2. It's one of those games that sticks out in my mind as a truly "next-generation" experience... back when BF 2 was next-generation. Modern multiplayer shooters started with BF 2 and I'm thinking post-modern mulitplayer shooters are going to start with Battlefield 3. Let's make sure I don't sound like a fanboy though.
I'm basing all of this speculation on the fact that Battlefield 3's engine looks miles ahead of Modern Warfare 3's. When you throw in BF 3's ability to accommodate more players, vehicles, and an engine capable of on-the-fly destruction Activision and the developers behind Modern Warfare 3 have their work cut out for them.
Speaking of destruction, check out the new gameplay footage at around 2:50 in the video above.
The Battlefield 3 engine is just downright more sophisticated. CoD still uses action triggers while Battlefield has been simulating bullet path and movement since BF2. I think hit detection is the only thing that they both share in common aside from the sheer basics. From what we know of Battlefield 3 it is a broad and somewhat dramatic upgrade from anything they've ever made before, so yeah its not just your eyes.
