E3: PC or rather about the lack of it

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

EA Exec Claims All Future EA Games Will Have Microtransactions

Posted on Wednesday, February 27 @ 08:11:56 Eastern by Keri_Honea

EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen has said that all future EA games will incorporate microtransactions in one form or another. As he put it, "the next and much bigger piece [of the business] is microtransactions within games."

Jorgensen attended the Morgan Stanley Technology Media & Telecom Conference, and during a question and answer session, he said, "We're building into all of our games the ability to pay for things along the way, either to get to a higher level to buy a new character, to buy a truck, a gun, whatever it might be."

He went on to say, "Consumers are enjoying and embracing that way of the business."

I'm guessing Jorgensen is looking at the DLC market or the free-to-play market for this last statement. In the freemium world, where players pay nothing up front and then fork over their wallets when they enjoy a game, they most certainly are enjoying and embracing that way of business. Diehard fans of games have no issues paying for extra DLC, even costumes and skins, and maybe that's what he's considering the most—give diehard fans a little more options to add to their fandom.

Either way, the statement has definitely polarized gamers' reactions across social media. Will this make you stop supporting EA's games, or does it sound like a sound business practice to you?

Until people stop paying en masse for dlc and the like, then its an obvious win for the publisher/developer, as long as we don't see an increase in the type of dlc that feels like its key to the games story, then I don't think we can have too much to complain about as we'll only be paying for what we want.

Is he saying that we will now have the opportunity to further accessorize our Shepards?

I HATE micro-transactions.... didn't bother getting any of the DLC for Dead Space because guess what EA? My life goes on even if my scavenger bot still takes 30 minutes to get my **** back to me.

I used a hex editor for DS3. Dont pay money for something you can easily hack the game for.

I didn't even bother exploiting the glitch but I thought it was kinda there fault. There was a flaw with their product and people took advantage of it because the developers were greedy micro-transaction bastards.

Micro transactions are fine as long as a game is not pay to win. I love how Fire Emblem has extra maps and characters for download that are 100% extra. That way if I have spare cash and don't want my FE experience to end I can extend it. But games that are obviously handicapped without extra purchases are complete bullshit.

I was playing a tiger woods game a few years back and it was just ridiculous. You could play like a million rounds to unlock things like courses or just pay a few bucks. They completely ruined the game by making it such a mundane chore to unlock COURSES (not a new watch for your character or something) that it drove people to pay. It drove me to stop playing and never touch a game like that again.

Yeah...this makes sense. Just posted a blog entry about the use of micro-transactions as a means of migrating current online communities. It's all about the money! What are you going to do about it?

Why does everything I hear about the next generation consoles make me not want to buy them?

A few months ago I commented on the new MS video (with the projector and presumably Kinect) and said that I thought the projector was pointless unless it was in someway helpful, and not a complete and utter distraction. Another GR member pointed out that would be "paying for an advantage." Unfortunately that's exactly what micro-transactions are. Just wait until BF4 comes out and you have to buy the best guns, equipment, or unlocks for your vehicles.

" I want to say I'll stop supporting their games, but we all know of my weakness for Mass Effect."

Truer words have never been spoken, I hate all the DLC and microtransactions... but I have all the costume packs and I'm chomping at the bit for the Citadel DLC... guess Jorgensen knows what he's talking about, unfortunately

hahaha true, but what can I say? Bioware made a game I love and I'm willing to pay a little to keep the experience going. It's not like I do this for every game or even any game, but I like ME and like other people said, the ME dlc is completely optional and not having it doesn't really (Mass) effect the game at all (yeah totally just did that).

I specifically cheated in DeadSpace 3. I used a hex editor and gave myself the resources EA tried to charge me real life money for. FUCK EA

No idea how that didn't get censored but it is warranted and I'm glad it didn't.
