EA Pulling Medal of Honor "Out Of The Rotation"

Posted on Thursday, January 31 @ 13:14:59 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

You'd be hard-pressed to find a gamer out there who'd admit to being impressed with last year's Medal of Honor: Warfighter. Now that Electronic Arts is done denying that it was a disaster, the publisher has confirmed that they will be taking a break from the franchise for the time being.

“We are taking Medal of Honor out of the rotation,” EA COO Peter Moore said during yesterday's earnings call, noting that the game received “poor critical and commercial reception” due to a sluggish industry and reviews that were “lower than it deserved.”

EA Labels president Frank Gibeau shared a few words as well, saying, “Frankly, we missed on Medal of Honor and we take responsibility for that.”

Are you glad EA is taking a break from the franchise? Let us know in the comments below.

MoH didn't get good reviews because it wasn't Call of Duty or Battlefield. Single-player outclassed Battlefield's, and the multiplayer was a good mix of the previously mentioned games.

Not even a fan of the series, not a bad game at all.

Battlefield 3, particularly, had the worst single-player campaign for an FPS that I can remember.

Barth is right. Battlefield's campaign was universally panned so its not saying much to say MoH has a better one. And as far as multiplayer goes, if someone thinks MoH has as good of multiplayer as Battlefield or CoD then good for them, but they are in the vast, vast minority. Also the "people don't like it because its not CoD" excuse for being pissy a game you like got bad reviews was old years ago.

Bad reviews? Sure. Bad sales? Hold up.

The Battlefield/CoD formula has achieved a stranglehold. Anything which even superficially resembles it either fall by the wayside to become, at best, cult classics (S.T.A.L.K.E.R.) or broken and twisted to fit into the Call of Duty/Battlefield mold (Soldier of Fortune: Payback, which isn't at all a worthy sequel to Double Helix).

I haven't played a Medal of Honor since Rising Sun back in 2003. That was quite disappointing compared to Frontline. Sounds like I haven't been missing much since then, judging from the reviews of subsequent games.

It didn't get much better after that until they released Airborne for the PS3/360. That was truly when the great MOH ended

Medal of Honor died after the release of Frontline, that was 10 years. Glad to know it took EA THIS long to realize this.

That sucks. I loved the 2010 MoH, Warfighter wasn't great, but I wouldn't say it warrants killing the franchise.

..."due to a sluggish industry and reviews that were lower than it deserved."

It doesn't sound like EA is ready to admit it was a disaster quite yet. Kind of like "ok I raped her...but it was in self-defence."
