Epic Mickey 2 Will Be A Musical

Posted on Wednesday, March 21 @ 14:08:19 Eastern by Keri_Honea
Warren Spector regrets not allowing the game characters of Epic Mickey to speak, so he's going to fix that in the sequel in the most awesome way possible. Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two will be a musical.

Mickey Mouse is definitely no stranger to the world of singing and of musicals. In many ways, this is the most fitting way to get the mouse to have a speaking role without sounding too forced. Spector isn't going about this half-assed, either. He has brought in Jim Dooley and Mike Himelstein, the composer and lyricist for the upcoming animated movie "Dorothy of Oz", to take charge of the muscial elements.

"I'm such a geek about musicals," Spector said. "I love the co-op and next-gen stuff, but for me, when a character breaks into song, which they do on a regular basis in this game, it's magic."

Co-op, you say? Well yes, we did say! Epic Mickey 2 will feature a co-op mode where player 2 can control Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who was Mickey's predecessor in the 1920s and also starred with Mickey in Epic Mickey.

"It's drop-in, drop-out co-op," explained Spector. "You can sit down at any time with a friend who is playing as Mickey, and you can take control of Oswald. If you're playing as a single player, Oswald will be there every second of the game."

Spector also assured everyone that like the first game, the player's choices will affect what happens throughout the sequel. The songs and music will even change based on whether the player chooses for Mickey to be well-mannered or mischievous.

Oh and don't worry; Spector also promises that the camera issues that plagued the first game will be fixed in the sequel. I'm thinking that playing it on the Xbox or PS3 will resolve most of these camera issues, all thanks to the second analog stick, but I guess we shall see.

This had better not be a musical like "RENT". Seriously, worst piece of entertainment ever. I always root for Benny every time I'm dragged into watching it. Only character who has and can hold a job, and he's supposed to be the antagonist. Riiiiight....

My family already looks at me funny for still playing games like Mario and Donkey Kong (and I mostly avoid telling them I play Pokemon). In all honesty, they'd tease the hell out of me if they see me playing a Mickey Mouse sing-a-long game.

This would be a game I wear headphones to play.
