Fallout Creator Is Back With New Post-Apocalyptic Role-Playing Project

Posted on Thursday, December 20 @ 13:27:56 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Black Isle Studios, the team behind PC classics like Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment, and Fallout, closed its doors several years ago, but is apparently getting back in the game development business with a new role-playing title.

The game is currently being referred to as "Project V13" and is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the player is tasked with staying alive and rebuilding the world.  If you head over to the studio's website, you can donate $20 and be a "contributing member" on the project. They're currently looking for funds to build a proof-of-concept demo. Check out the video above for more details.

Are you excited to see Black Isle Studios get back in the game development business? What do you think of their "Project V13" idea? Is another game set in a post-apocalyptic world a good idea, or should they go in a completely new and different direction? Let us know in the comments below.

This concept will be a lot less interesting when the apocalypse doesn't happen (or hard to play if it does). Imagine someone releasing a game based on the Y2K apocalypse today, just not relevant anymore.

See this guys? This is how not to crowd fund something. Funny video but tells us nothing. Also, you aren't paying for a game, you're paying for a tech-demo. You're also paying for forum access, though you can't post there unless you drop 20 bucks.

This isn't even Black Isle, it's a sham. Look it up, there are plenty of articles floating around why this isn't even Black Isle, they're just using the name Black Isle to stir up your nostalgia and give them money. Look it up before you decide to donate, if you do.

Looks like it might be fun, but I'll wait for the GR review before I send them any money.

NecroWolf nailed it. The only other thing to add is that in addition to being BIINO (Black Isle in Name Only) it is headed by the godawful Herve Caen. None of the talent that made those classics Black Isle is remembered for are still around at the studio. With one exception every single person who worked on Fallout and Fallout 2 of note is no longer with Interplay in any capacity. That one exception is important (Chris Taylor, without whom Fallout wouldn't be Fallout) but it was an entire team that made those games.

That's a shame. Fallout 2 is/was one of the best games ever.

Anyone else remember that Black Isle pretty much invented the Day 1 patch with Fallout 2?
