Fans Angry Over Slower Zone of the Enders HD Collection

Posted on Friday, November 2 @ 13:18:14 Eastern by

Zone of the Enders is a beloved mech franchise on the PS2, with plenty of fans rallying around Konami's newly released HD Collection of both the original title and The 2nd Runner sequel. Now that it's finally been released, though, all we can hear is their dissatisfaction.

Apparently, both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are slower than the original titles, with comparison videos on a Japanese blog showing how all of the energy attacks feel deflated.

On top of that, not only does the 360 version run at a higher framerate than the PS3 version, but neither of them match the 60fps as hawked on the UK website. Instead, it runs regularly at half that speed at 30-40 fps.

If you were planning on getting the HD Collection, does this change your mind?

Actually, yes. But I'm finicky about things like that--performance issues were the reason I didn't buy Dark Souls on PC, as well.

As PC games go, I will always drop the graphical settings of a game if it means better/smoother FPS--it's why I have a lot of trouble appreciating much of this current generation of console games that boast better graphics but then chug along at 10 FPS when the action picks up. I don't care that you rendered every leaf on a tree if you force me into a slideshow every time I turn my camera on the darn thing.

In many ways I think the FPS can make or break a game. At least on PC you have the option of changing things up to account for the deficiencies. With a game like this we're all kind of screwed out of a smooth experience.

60 fps is why Call of Duty is better than BF on console, hands-down.

The upper limits of human visual perception is 60fps. Minor dips shouldn't really be noticed. Massive 10fps slowdown is different, but how much do you have to obsess over fps to care about a 10 or 15 pfs drop?

    Not trolling. Seriously?

Wow what a disappointment. And as for people that say you can only see up to 60 fps if you have a 120hz monitor and system that can push 120fps you can see the difference between 60 and 120 fps. You can definitely feel the difference in a game like zone of enders that is so fast paced to begin with.

The eye can see much higher as well because we don't see in fps. Do a google search for "How many frames per second can the human eye see?" it will be the first link. Does a excellent job explaining.

This would be a deciding factor, so I checked out the video. I can see it, but it's not enough to single-handedly turn me off. Was already at a maybe though.
