FFXIII Announcements Coming From Square, Versus XIII Allegedly Canned

Posted on Friday, July 20 @ 08:02:50 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy, and Square Enix plans to celebrate the occasion by announcing the long awaited Final Fantasy VII remake something Final Fantasy XIII related. Now before you get your hopes up, just know that it probably won't involve Versus XIII. I know, I know, it pains me as well, but a rumor from Kotaku indicates that the long awaited spinoff has been cancelled.

According to the report, "several sources" have told the outlet that Square plans to downplay the game's cancellation and bring the Versus XIII staff on to aid in the development of Final Fantasy XV, which is currently rumored to be in development for current generation consoles.

That said, you can expect hear something major about Square's polarizing Final Fantasy XIII franchise when they make a few announcements regarding what's next, during their anniversary event on September 1st. I hate to string you along, but since Square has yet to confirm the cancellation of FF Versus XIII, I guess there's still a shred of hope that the game is alive and will be shown at the event, but I wouldn't count on it.

All signs point to the disheartening reality that Versus XIII is dead. Please Square, torture us no more and make it official.

Unfortunately John, that happened for me at the release of 13. I couldn't stand the combat and the dialogue was awful. It was different than the feel of final fantasies I used to get, maybe I grew out of it or whatever, but the music and mood of it just made me feel like I was in an elevator in Japan and being saturated by some of the worst anime plotlines ever. Maybe I grew out of it, but I can still play through 7, 8, and 9 without feeling that way. When I see the new final fantasies come out I just feel like I am seeing an old ex girlfriend that I feel better about being broken up with every time I see her.

People actually still care about Versus XIII? Just finish this XIII nonsense and move on to XV and hopefully it can be a come back for them because XIII was disappointing to me to say the least and I really want them to do something to make Final Fantasy fun again.

I think you didn't get the memo, but Versus XIII is supposed to be different and better than the other XIII.

considering most people did not like 13 or didn't play it, it would makes sense that a lot of people don't give a **** about this shitty sub-series continuing.

The last Final Fantasy I liked was 8 and 9. Square has long lost its path.

after the letdown of ff13 i don't really know why anybody wanted another game in this series. i'd rather them just focus their efforts on a good, new game (i.e. ff 15) and get the final fantasy name back on track. also no random turned based battles.... those days are dead

To me, it maybe time that Square goes the truly retro way and makes the next FF game like FF6, going even further back than FF7. FF6 is the last masterpiece in that series, beginning with Final Fantasy 7 the series may have had some
good games, but not a truly legendary game like FF6 on the SNES
