Final Fantasy Versus XIII Reportedly Pushed To PS4

Posted on Tuesday, February 5 @ 06:32:25 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

A new report suggests that Square Enix's chronically delayed PS3-exclusive Final Fantasy Versus XIII will in fact be pushed to next-generation hardware, presumably the PlayStation 4.

According to NeoGAF user Verendus, the game will launch next year and drop the Versus XIII suffix. The title will allegedly be re-revealed later this year—I'm guessing Tokyo Game Show. In fact, the forum user puts his account on the line, saying that he will have it deleted if his claims turn out to be false.

Verendus doesn't stop there, going on to claim that both Final Fantasy XV and FInal Fantasy XVI are currently in the works for next-gen consoles. Perhaps Versus XIII will turn out to be one of these properly numbered installments... What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

    Quick thoughts:
-It sure would sell some PS4s, if true.
-I guess it would also explain the long-ass delay in news and imagery.
-I doubt this, though. Different posters have also ASSURED everyone that they TOTALLY had insider info on Wild ARMs 6 and said "yeah well ban me if it's not true" and...yeah.
-Then again, FFXIII was originally in development for PS2, so...who knows, anymore?

It just blows my mind that this game was first announced back in 2006. That is a looooooong time ago.

Every month that goes by without this game coming out you might as well drop its score by 5 percent... Eternally delayed games never end up being good.

The NeoGAF link doesn't work. Did Verendus' post get yanked by author or moderators?

GAF may have been down for a minute?
I just clicked the link right now and it worked for me.

The link didn't show the standalone post for me. I had to click through to the thread itself but it was kind enough to bounce to his post.

What exactly are these 'Versus' games anyway? I always thought it was some fighting game off-shoot of Final Fantasy. Or maybe that is 'Dissidia'. Isn't there a series of strategy RPGs?

Final Fantasy Versus XIII is just a game within the FF13 sub-universe. The "Versus" is in there because Nomura likes the word. No joke. Birth by Sleep was called that because, I kid you not, "We wanted a title with the word 'by' in it."

Tales of Versus, on the other hand, IS a fighting game with RPG characters. It's not very good though.

The FF fighters you're thinking of are indeed Dissidia.

I have been saying Versus would be XV for awhile now, but recently they led me to believe otherwise. Given the usage they got out of the XIII universe already I would say that's a great idea. Fabula Nova Crystallis was supposed to be XIII, Agito, and Versus. Well, we've been given three games alone with XIII, XIII-2, and LR. XIII Agito went to Type-0 since it was laregly unrelated, and with what little we've seen of Versus I would say it looks like it could stand FAR apart from the already established XIII mythos. I'm just ready to leave XIII and XIV's vanilla launch behind and get back on track. The things they could accomplish(but don't) with todays technology and the traditional overworld roaming JRPG style is perhaps the biggest dissapointment of all. I can't even begin to imagine a game like FFVI with XIII's engine.

Once again, don't trust anything which is not an official announcement.
