Final Fantasy VII Possibly Coming To Steam

Posted on Thursday, June 21 @ 11:09:20 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

If you've been dying to play Final Fantasy VII and for whatever reason don't have a PlayStation 3, rejoice, for it looks like the beloved PSone role-playing game is coming to Steam. A user on GoG.com posted an allegedly leaked product description on the site's forums, which includes links to a Google cache, a screenshot and a domain registration for the game.

Since Square has yet to confirm the validity of this news, we can't say for certain that this FFVII port is a go, but it's hard to deny the slew of compelling evidence above. I don't know about you, but I for one would much rather see a Steam port of Final Fantasy VIII, as I found it to be a much more compelling experience.

Which of the Final Fantasy games would you like to see come to Steam? Sound off with your personal fave in the comments below.

This isn't a port bro, Final Fantasy VII has been on PC for years now. Honestly I've bought this game 2 or 3 times now, at this point if I want to play it I'll just pirate it.

I love how piracy has become such an accepted practice that public admissions of it don't even phase anyone anymore.

I think if it's shown to be justified like in his case there should be no shame in admitting to piracy. Really there should be no shame anyway since if you do something you should own up to it.

I work with someone who was a former, high level FBI agent (he's currently the deputy director of the company I work for) and we were in a training one time with a stupid movie with the piracy warning, so my boss asked him how many resources they expend on stopping piracy and he said "Almost none". I wouldn't be worried about admitting it openly if I did it either.

I never said I agreed or disagreed, just kinda made me giggle that its openly discussed easily these days. And yeah, I can understand downloading it if he's bought it repeatedly.

It was "ported" to Windows in 1998 after first being released on the PlayStation the year prior. So if you want to get technical about it, the PC version is still a port.

WILLS_COOL_MODE is right. I owned the PC version...before someone put something heavy on the crappy cardboard sleeve thing the discs came in and crushed them. *sigh*

And yeah, thedarkstar, and WILLS_COOL_MODE are both right, it isn't a port. There was a PC version for a long time.

There's already a PC version but this is an enhanced version. I'm excited to see what they do with it.

Yeah, I'm skeptical, and the old PC version was very buggy. Will they take the time to rehash the old code?

I may get flogged here for saying this but I've never played this one. I'll probably pick it up if it comes to steam though.

Also, reading from the screenshot posted, it mentions the ability to boost your stats to almost max levels with just a click via Character Booster. This sounds like a giveaway that this news could be fake.
