LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

Final Fantasy XIV Version 2.0 Officially Subtitled "A Realm Reborn"

Posted on Thursday, July 26 @ 11:13:23 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Square Enix has been working on a major overhaul for the colossal failure that has been Final Fantasy XIV. Originally dubbed "Version 2.0," this updated version is set to bring some major changes to the struggling MMO. It's been a long time coming, but Square finally has something to show on the update, including the official subtitle "A Realm Reborn."

To go along with this announcement, the publisher released a trailer for the game. Unfortunately - and to no one's surprise - we have no idea when the world of FFXIV will see this major overhaul, as all we have to go on right now is a "soon" release window. Don't hold your breath though, as Square's concept of time is clearly quite different than the average person's (see Versus XIII).

Check out the trailer below.

If Square Enix's update manages to create a compelling MMO world, would you be willing to take the plunge? Let us know in the comments below.

I purchased the Collector's Edition when it came out and hated the game so much. I had some hope for 2.0 but after watching this trailer I think it's going to still be trash. The entire trailer is CGI... where's the gameplay? If it were anything worth getting excited about they'd release ingame footage...

Well obviously Square cares more about visuals. Every trailer they make never seem to contain gameplay footage ever.

I would never go back into the world of MMOs after managing to break away from WoW a few years back, but I honestly hope this works out for them. Every failure for SquareEnix seems to threaten one more step away from those big-budget epic JRPGs that I love (although I actually dislike all the Final Fantasy games I've played). But seriously, sure The Last Remnant was awful, but at least it was something different, and had some interesting ideas, and best of all, didn't use a real-time battle system.

I almost ran out and bought it when it first came out just from how good it looked alone. I (thankfully) held off on the impulse. I still think it looks great. One of the nicest looking MMO's out there. If they ever manage to get the gameplay sorted out I would give it a try but I doubt it will happen the way I would want it to.

My mind is still partially shattered from reviewing 1.0. Sometimes I lay awake at night and still hear the cries of the early adopters bemoaning the lack of an auction house, and I relive the horror of the broken down, laggy interface preventing me from doing anything at all... and then I pass out.
