Former Ubisoft And Naughty Dog Employees Announce Outlast, A Survival Horror Title

Posted on Wednesday, October 17 @ 11:59:12 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

Survival horror games might not be as scary as they used to be, but indie developers see that as nothing less than a challenge that must be conquered. Thus, Outlast was born.

Red Barrels, an indie developer composed of eight members with impressive resumes, is producing a survival horror game by the name of Outlast. It's the first game by the studio, and while it's PC exclusive, it'll be offered through digital download for a reasonable price—think Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Outlast is set in the desolate mountains of Colorado within a mysterious insane asylum that was presumed to be inoperational. However, there's plenty going on secretly within the facility, and it's a matter of what's going on that intrigues the main character.

The gameplay is fast-paced with platforming sequences that evoke déjà vu from the days of Mirror's Edge. But that certainly doesn't mean the challenge of avoiding and escaping from monsters should go with any less discretion. Actually, Red Barrels intends for the enemies of the game to be be as intelligent as they are haunting. In other words, prepare your pants for a good soaking.

To offer a glimpse into the world of Outlast a teaser trailer was released which can be seen below:

Outlast is expected to release on PC in 2013.
