GAME UK Stores Closing Down

277 GAME stores all across the United Kingdom have been closed today by the Game Group administrator PwC. The retailer's websites are offline, pre-orders have been suspended, and 2,104 people are out of a job.

If that wasn't enough, there's more bad news. All refunds and exchanges have been suspended, GAME Reward cards and gift cards are now unredeemable, they won't be accepting any more trade-ins, and all GAMEwallet accounts are now worth nilch.

For those who have been tracking the welfare of GAME stores for this past month won't be surprised. In late February, GAME wasn't able to stuck any Electronic Arts titles, including Mass Effect 3, because of insufficient credit.

GAME will be pursuing a sale, perhaps to US giant GameStop.

    I think the employees & customers they just screwed should be allowed to loot their stores.

    i wonder if it'll effect the Game stores down here in Australialand. not that i ever buy anything from em... i go to EBGames for that. they did, however, sell ME3 so they mustn't be too reliant on their dying UK brethren.

    Not entirely sure why people couldn't be using gift cards for the stock I'm assuming they'll be clearing.

    Sorry to hear about those that are out of a job though. Unfortunate result of the business of the gaming industry.
