Gamers Potentially Discover Two New Planets

Posted on Wednesday, September 28 @ 10:25:57 Eastern by

In what is a winning streak for gamers after cracking an AIDS enzyme little more than a week ago, gamers have potentially discovered two new planets outside of our solar system.

By playing a browser game called Planet Hunters, developed by Yale University and The University of Oxford among others, players can sift through data within the Kepler public archives for measurements where light waves suddenly dip, suggesting that a planet may be blocking the light emitted by its star.

It's a rare occurrence, but according to the official report, "in the first month of launch, users identified two new planet candidates which survived our checks for false-positives".

I'd be interested in hearing more news about the NASA MMO Astronaut Moon, Mars, and Beyond too that they are developing though.

not related but is there a better way to include links without separating comments?
