LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

GameStop: Xbox 720 and PS4 Won't Come Until 2014

Posted on Friday, July 15 @ 12:16:31 Eastern by

The rumor mills have practically confirmed that Microsoft and Sony are developing the next Xbox and PlayStation as we speak, especially in the wake of the Wii U. Some of us at GR are predicting that they will announce them next year at E3 or some other important conference, and then release them the following year, but according to GameStop, they're dubious:

Management does not expect new hardware consoles from Microsoft and Sony until 2014; however, a successful launch of Nintendo's Wii U in 2012 could add pressure to accelerate a hardware refresh.

Despite the slightly disappointing sales of the Nintendo 3DS, they are excited for Sony's PlayStation Vita:

GameStop is also upbeat on the coming launch of Sony's PlayStation Vita handheld gaming device, which has a $249 price-point within the reach of many gamers.

As for the PlayStation Move launched a year ago, "management indicated more software is needed to maintain sales momentum". That's putting it nicely. Wait, what's the PlayStation Move?

I don't get it why would GameStop want me to "Bend Over"? *friend whispers in ear* Oh, that's sick! Never mind.

Because Gamestop's speculation on release dates or dates in their system before anything official is announced is usually pretty spot on >_>.

xbox needs a new name for the 740 as does the ps4. makes it less like a sequel and more like a new beginning

Uh. It's not really going to be called the xbox 740, right? That would be so silly.

    I don't mean any offence, but 360 + 360 = 720.

SweetHat I love you like a brother man, but check your own math. "xbox needs a new name for the 740 as does the ps4."

I guess if the next Nintendo console tittles do well, it would accelerate the debut of Sony's and Microsoft's new consoles. There was an article on game revolution not long ago where a Sony developer (maybe inhose dev) said that what was shown about the new NIntendo console was something that the PS3 and a Vita could do..... so, Sony could just make new commercials showing the same functionality.

when the new systems come out...it's not the cash im worried about shelling out for em'. If I need to save up for a new console I will. It's having to wait on decent games to come out for those systems. There is usually one good launch title and the rest are terrible!

I never understood the need to run out and buy the system when it launches. Top price for a buggy system and one decent launch game? No thanks.
