Gearbox Software Outbids Other PC-centric Studios For Homeworld IP

One of the last licenses to be sold off in the great burning effigy of THQ was Homeworld, and the auction for that beloved PC franchise closed last week. Bidders included this group of fans on indiegogo who wanted to crowdfund Homeworld 3 and Sins of a Solar Empire-publisher Stardock, but Gearbox Software revealed themselves as the winner today.
In a post on the company's community blog, Chris Faylor writes that "Brian [Martel, Gearbox Chief Creative Officer] intends as first priority to direct Gearbox's interest to preserve and assemble the purest form of the original acclaimed and beloved games, Homeworld and Homeworld 2, with the intent of making them accessible on today's leading digital platforms."
I hope that means the new game will be fun! Not to kick dirt on what might be a PC fan's dream, but this seems a little odd. I could have seen Relic and Sega picking this up, but at the very least Gearbox will treat the IP with respect, unlike that other IP that they didn't own in-house.
