Gearbox's Lead Writer Has Plenty Of Ideas For Borderlands 3

Posted on Saturday, September 29 @ 09:16:26 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

When a game sells as well as Borderlands 2 has it's only fair to give the fans what they want: another game in the series.

Borderlands 3 is already in the minds of Gearbox, the series' developer. During a video interview with Revision 3, Gearbox Lead Writer Anthony Burch was asked about whether or not the Borderlands series has any gas left in the tank, to which he replied:

The thing about game design is that it’s so fluid; things can just change all the time. You don’t want to get too specific, because then you’re like, ‘Oh, crap, I gotta write myself out of this hole that I thought would be a really cool idea two years ago.’ I could just Looper myself and punch myself in the dick for having stupid ideas.

He then added:

There are definitely some more general ideas I have for Borderlands 3 that I hope we get to see come to fruition.

What makes this so much more exciting is Borderlands 2's ~35+ hour journey is filled to the brim with witty writing and hilarious dialogue. It's such a leg up from games with similar style that you'd think Gearbox is exhausted. However, there are ways that the gameplay and world can be improved, and as long as the third game is as fun and colorful as the past two have there's no way Gearbox can lose.

In the meantime, look out for Mechromancer, a new character that will be available free to pre-orders or for $10 via DLC on October 16th.

Im almost done fininishign BL2, Ill hold my judgment until I complete every quest.

I did however hear the lead designer of BL2 talk about trying to get sony to release borderlands 2 on your vita and allow you to switch your save games on the go. So you can stop playing, get on a train/ride in a car and play your borderlands 2 save.

Burch is a cool dude. I've been a fan since his Destructoid days and I'm glad his first head writing gig is being so critically acclaimed.

Hopefully he can write a better villain next time. Otherwise, good for him on planning ahead.

I thought Handsome Jack was a really good villain, in true quirky Borderlands style. That said, they probably could have lessened his dialogue and still achieved the same effect.

I agree to that. Although for me I felt he was not an amazing villain for me.

I can see where you're coming from. I guess we'll have to wait for the DLC to see who the new antagonist(s) will be!
