E3: PC or rather about the lack of it
By Starling

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

Get Married, Start a Bar Fight, Play after the Main Story in Skyrim

Posted on Tuesday, July 5 @ 15:28:19 Eastern by

That trailer always gives me chills....

Bethesda's gotten a load of community questions and have decided that answering them before Skyrim's release was the best idea. They were wrong. They're driving us all crazy at the GameRevolution compound. If you're a gamer, Skyrim's gotta be on your radar. If it wasn't, some of these answers will cement it's place on there. Game Director Todd Howard, Lead Designer Bruce Nesmith, and Lead Artist Matt Carofano answered a handful of questions, confirming and revealing several tidbits that make the wait for November that much harder.

Howard neither confirmed nor denied whether or not the player will be able to transform into other creatures in Skyrim, stating that they'd "prefer to not discuss this one. We'd like to leave that an open question until the game is out." Nesmith replied to one community member that leveling will be handled as it was in Fallout 3 where certain areas yield higher level enemies and loot, rather than scaling as it was in Oblivion.

When asked whether players will be able to have relationships in-game, Nesmith replied:

Absolutely! You make friends with people by doing things for them. Friends in the game will treat you differently. Some of them will even agree to go with you into dungeons and on adventures. You can even get married. If you own a house, your spouse will move in with you.

Carofano revealed that "one of the most prized and rarest sets of armor is made from dragons," while Nesmith confirmed that magic weapons and armor will operate as they did in Oblivion, requiring soul gems to power their effects. When asked about non-lethal means of defeating opponents, Howard replied:

Depends on what you mean by "defeat". We have various stealthy ways of getting past people, and the various poisons and spells allow you to basically render enemies harmless to you, whether that is casting a calm or fear spell, knocking them down, or something else.

Oh, and we now have tavern brawls that are non-lethal! I love those.

Woah-woah-woah. Tavern brawls? shutupandtakemymoney.jpg, ri---

Will dragon shouts support all types of characters? Are there long ranged shouts? Some kind of stealthy "shout"?

Howard: Yes, the shouts support all character types.

You had me at "tavern brawl" guys, c'mon! I don't know how much more I can ta---

Will you be able to carry on after the main story?

Howard: Yes, absolutely.

NOOOOOO! WHY MUST YOU MAKE US WAIT?!?! The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be on store shelves November 11th, 2011.

Everything that they confirm not to be in the game, or won't say if it will be, makes me that much more confident in the fan community surrounding this game. I'm getting the PC version, no question, and I know for a fact that fans will create for themselves whatever doesn't make it into Skyrim when it comes out. We can't ride dragons? Someone will make a dragon-riding mod (like the Akatosh Mount mod only with Skyrim's badass dragons). We can't become vampires or werewolves? Someone will make a mod for it (Just like the Curse of Hircine Oblivion mod).

So whatever Bethesda doesn't end up adding to Oblivion, the fans will. At least, the fans playing the PC version will.

After playing Dark Messiah of Might and Magic almost 5 years ago, I still haven't seen a S&S game that even comes close in terms of combat. What I would give for a physics-based Elder Scrolls...

I'm getting this on the xbox 360, I can actually get it on ps3 and pc too, but I choose 360! Why? Because I like sitting on a couch and not a computer chair simple as that.

Once in a great while, a game so deep and consuming comes along. When that time comes you must clear out your schedule and fill up your fridges. This will be that game. A game that will enthrall you for multiple hours if not days at a time. Not even Call of Duty can captivate people the way the Elder Scrolls can. The story is huge, the gameplay mechanics will be above and beyond, and the fact is you can get lost in the whole experience. I for one will be taking a vacation and playing this on the projector to maximize my entertainment. I'm so anxious to play this...to live this! Jebus I'm a nerd.
