God of War: Ascension Now Official [Update]

Posted on Thursday, April 19 @ 00:26:54 Eastern by

[Update] Sony has now made God of War: Ascension official. In addition to the trailer we've already seen, Sony will be live-streaming an "event" on April 30th at 8AM PDT, that promises to give you a "glimpse of what's in store for God of War: Ascension".

[Original Story] Although we had strong suspicions, and a little bit of evidence, that tomorrow's big Sony reveal was related to God of War, it's now been confirmed thanks to everyone's favorite online retailer.

Amazon.com has pre-emptively listed God of War: Ascension for sale, letting Sony's vengeful cat out of the bag early. It's not just the game listing, either—there's a teaser trailer for the game, too.

The trailer suggests that the game takes place before the main God of War series, and perhaps before the PSP game, Ghost of Sparta, which was also a prequel. See for yourself.

Amazon better hope that Sony is more forgiving than Kratos is, or else there's going to be some brutally murdered executives.

A prequel. Prequels almost always suck.

Bah, I fixed that last night. I tried writing the post from my iPad and it auto-incorrected. But I swear, I fixed it. I even went on my PC to make sure. But now it's back. The ghost of your/you're is haunting me.

Not surprised, although I'm not sure I really need another God of War.

Agreed. It almost feels as though they are trying to get blood from a stone here. Kratos's story is done. Why not do another God of War style game, but do a different setting? Tackle Norse mythology maybe.

They could just remake the whole series with Roman gods!

or, you know, just dub their names.

They should let the series be. Trilogy was great and the PSP games brought nice backstory to the main games. No more prequels!

they gotta whore out the name as they did with halo, that's just my thoughts on this, cause if it says god of war they know people will buy into it.

While I agree that it would have been best to let Kratos' story rest, the idea of experiencing his desperate war and subsequent oath to Ares firsthand sounds pretty damn badass. It would also hopefully open up some room for some new weapons and controls, since you presumably wouldn't start with the trusty blades.

It's only a matter of time before the next sequel where Kratos takes on Odin and Jesus.
