Grand Theft Auto V Delayed, Take-Two's Share Price Falls

Posted on Thursday, January 31 @ 09:07:36 Eastern by Keri_Honea

Early this morning, Rockstar announced that Grand Theft Auto will be released on September 17th, which was quite a bit later than originally planned. As soon as Twitter came back online, the outcry of disappointment was nearly deafening.

Reason for the delay? The post explains that, "GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require." Considering how much we, as gamers, often complain about the lack of polish in games, or how obvious it was that the game was rushed to make a deadline, I think we can all appreciate Rockstar taking the extra time to make sure this sure-to-be megahit is done right.

Not surprisingly, Take-Two Interactive's share price fell over 8 percent within an hour post-announcement, according to Gamasutra. GameStop also experienced a similar slip in its share prices, down 2.9 percent shortly after the post went live.

So once again, it appears that we all have an incredibly busy fall to look forward to. Start putting aside your cash now!

If next-gen consoles are launched this year, I will probably wait and play it on it. If not, this will be indeed a busy fall for gaming.

Damn you quality control!!! How about they release a beta version of it in march. That would hold me over.

I'm that special angry where you just sit there and don't know how to process the anger. This game was supposed to carry me through the summer.

If anyone didn't see this coming you must be new to gaming. Personally I say take all the time you need, whatever produces an awesome GTA game.

Besides, there's a ton of stuff scheduled for the next months that should keep everyone entertained. Then we have E3 and with all the news that will be coming out of that event we probably won't even be able to take everything in let alone worry about a single game.

I would much rather have a polished GTA than a buggy GTA. I was going to have to wait a little longer anyway since I was going the PC route.

To anyone who doubts the wisdom of delaying such a thing for extra polish I want you to look at...Skyrim at launch on the PS3! It's ugly isn't it?!? Look at it! Look at it! I want all of you to look at it!

Wait, you mean there's actually a playable version of Skyrim for PS3? This whole time I thought you could only buy a pretty box, with a bonus slideshow included to promote the Xbox 360 and Windows versions.

I think Bethesda Softworks and Sony are going to need some ointment for that burn.

I hope the changes in this game are a big move forward for the series, i finally started getting tired of the series when gta4 was released. I still think that game was average anyway (mostly because it was a step backwards in every way except visuals) but i just really want to see something different. There haven't been any significant changes since gta3, just little additions here and there (or big additions for San Andreas. And amazingly quite the opposite for gta4)

I'm more saddened by the probable death of Saints Row 4. Liberty City in GTA 4 wasn't the playground of debauchery and destruction I thought it would be.

So what you're saying is to buy stock now since it'll make a return and then some when GTA sales are insanely high. I actually bought some take two stock before the release of Borderlands 2 when I heard how much people were anticipating it, plus having GTAV releasing in the not too too distant future thereafter was a bonus. I have not been disappointed in that decision. Oh adulthood, thank you for allowing me to put my money where my gaming heart resides.
