Guild Wars 2 Confirmed for 2012, Public Beta Incoming

Posted on Monday, January 23 @ 08:55:37 Eastern by

If you're doing your best to ignore Star Wars: The Old Republic because you know Guild Wars 2 is right around the corner, the wait should get a little easier now that the game has been confirmed for a 2012 release.

Today President and Found of AreaNet, Mike O'Brien said via blog post:

In February we'll invite select press to participate in beta testing, and in March and April we'll aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events so that many of you will have a chance to participate. So welcome to the Year of the Dragon—the year of Guild Wars 2!

If you don't know why people are so excited, know that the series does not require subscription fees. That is all.

I remember playing the original Guild Wars like... 7 years ago if not more, thought it was dead. I may try this, the original was great for its time.

so I just looked up some vids. I clearly haven't been keeping track. But is GW2 more along traditional, open world MMO rather than everything being instanced and you always needing a group (or hirelings)?
