E3: PC or rather about the lack of it

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

Guild Wars 2 Summoned To Consoles

Posted on Wednesday, February 15 @ 11:10:24 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

Are you excited for Guild Wars 2? If not, it's probably because you don't have a gaming PC. Well that's no longer a concern, because it's coming to consoles.

During the NCSoft earnings call today it was announced that Guild Wars 2 will be releasing on consoles. The particulars, including a release date or supported platforms, haven't been released. However, it was stated that the console release will come sometime after the PC launch, which if it's anything like Final Fantasy XIV then we'll have gray hairs by the time it arrives. Whether it'll be for current-generation consoles or the inevitable new hardware is yet to be determined.

Guild Wars 2 was previously one of the most exciting PC-exclusives of the near future. After years of MMOs coming and going, NCSoft has finally got a game to deliver that not only has received overwhelmingly positive marks from those who have played it early, but requires no subscription to play. No more fumbling around with credit cards and worry about running out of gametime. Oh, and there is a slider for breast size, so you know the game will be good.

Now that both Diablo III and Guild Wars 2 are multi-platform, it's safe to say that platform-exclusives are becoming a thing of the past.

It is multi-platform but is it cross-platform?

I don't work at NCSoft but I'd be willing to bet all the money in the world that it will be cross-platform. Final Fantasy XI did it, and to segment the players would hurt its potential.

I'm a PC gamer and I am happy about it actually. I know it sounds crazy, but we still get better visuals and assuming the console versions don't support K&M, better gameplay too. The reason I'm happy is because there will be a larger audience, and therefore more people to play with. Heck, some of my friends hate PC gaming so it'll be easy to recommend this for them and actually be able to play together.

As Diablo III, Guild Wars 2, and other MMO's move on to consoles this erodes some of the reasons to be a PC gamer. Yet the PC will always be King!
