Gundam Blueshelled by Mario in JP Sales

Posted on Wednesday, December 7 @ 22:03:59 Eastern by Heath_Hindman

Mario has once again taken everyone to school -- the um...How to Sell Games School. Despite Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs having a huge following and selling quite the assload in its first week, it, to the presumed dismay of Namco Bandai, launched in the same week as Mario Kart 7, so it ended up finishing second place to Nintendo's cartoonish racer. PS3 hardware sales took a jump, up to 40k from the usual 25k or so, but that too was squashed under a huge week for Nintendo, as the company put over 205 thousand new 3DS units into Japanese homes. Here are the full charts, starting with the software:

1. (3DS) Mario Kart 7
2. (PS3) Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs.
3. (3DS) Super Mario 3D Land
4. (PS3) Assassin's Creed: Revelations
5. (WII) The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
6. (WII) Itadaki Street Wii
7. (WII) Kirby's Return to Dream Land
8. (NDS) Power Pro Kun Pocket 14
9. (PSP) Kamen Rider: Climax Heroes Fourze
10. (PS3) The King of Fighters XIII
11. (WII) Kamen Rider: Climax Heroes Fourze
12. (WII) PokePark 2: Beyond the World
13. (WII) Wii Party
14. (WII) Just Dance 3
15. (PSP) 7th Dragon 2020
16. (NDS) One Piece: Gigant Battle 2 - New World
17. (WII) Taiko Drum Master Wii: Definitive Edition
18. (PSP) Little Battlers eXperience: Boost
19. (WII) Wii Sports Resort with Remote Plus
20. (PS3) Tekken Hybrid

Hardware went down this way:
3DS: 205,962
PS3: 40,668
PSP: 39,547
Wii: 31,071
DS/DSIi/LL: 6,751

Nothing like a Nintendo system selling more than everything else under the sun.

What I was thinking but forgot to add that, and another 40k and it would have been the norm.
