Halo 4 Comes With Two Weeks Of Xbox Live Gold Access

Microsoft really wants everyone to try out the two multiplayer offerings in Halo 4, both the traditional multiplayer and the Spartan Ops. So much so, in fact, that they're bundling every copy of Halo 4 with two weeks of Xbox Gold access for free.

This is quite a precedent for Microsoft. In fact, 343 Industries designer David Ellis said via Twitter that he believes this is a first for the company.

Are you already an Xbox Gold subscriber? Then congratulations...you have two free weeks now, which thereby extends your annual renewal date. Any time I can push back a payment deadline without penalty is always welcome.

    It's been a long time since I was dumb enough to even consider paying to play games online, but I swear Crimson Skies or Halo2 or GTA 4 or something way back when came with a free month of Xbox Live.

    A first for the company? So uh... was it just in Canada that like every second game used to come with a free MONTH of Live? I mean two weeks actually seems like a huge letdown since Halo games would always have at least a month, sometimes two.

    Yeah, only two weeks? I remember a glorious month of Halo 2 multiplayer before I cancelled that crap (and incidentally forgot the password to my 'sandineyes' gamertag by the time GFWL and the 360 came around. That is why my gamertag is 'sandineye').

    I guess it is a first in the sense that they've never given out only two weeks before.

    Why are you complaining about getting free Xbox LIVE service? I remember when they were only two day trials. You don't see this kind of promotion anymore. Instead, multiplayer based games will come with extra maps, weapon skins and other forms of DLC, but not Xbox LIVE service. To me, this is going to work out perfectly for 343 industries.

    Yeah, clearly any time for free is good. But trumping it up as unprecedented and a historic deal doesn't make much sense when there have been free month deals in the past.

    By the way guys, an Xbox Live connection is required for Spartan Ops...not sure if it's Gold or Free.

    Spartan Ops can also be played solo/local co-op, but you still can't access it without an Xbox Live connection.
