Undead Lab's zombie-infested action title has finally hit XBLA. Is it worth a few of your precious Microsoft Points, or should you whack it over the head with a two-by-four and continue on your merry way?

E3: PC or rather about the lack of it

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

IGN Called Out For Being Totally Full of it, Again!

Posted on Friday, March 18 @ 13:42:14 Eastern by Blake_Morse

Some of you may have heard the rumblings this week about IGN saying that the PS3 version of Crysis 2 is a laggy, blurry piece of crap:

“The performance of the PS3 version is pretty underwhelming. The framerate is frequently low and choppy. There are jagged lines everywhere, and shadows are especially messy. There’s a muddiness to the graphics that’s hard to stomach in the wake of the PS3′s other flagship showpieces, and worse, the variable framerate really hurts controller response.” ~IGN

What they didn't mention is that the version they're playing could be months old and have nowhere near the same amount of polish as the final PS3, or even 360 version of the game. And when you have Nathan Camarillo, the executive producer of Crysis 2 challenging people to find differences between the two, IGN credibility becomes even more questionable than it already was thanks to their horrendous review coverage of Dead Space 2. (And ya know, the whole being IGN thing.)

There's a reason we here at GR never talk smack about a game before it hits store shelves: Usually what we see are "work in progress" builds of a game, which means they're nowhere near the level of polish that the final version will have. Voices are out of sync, shading and anti-aliasing work needs to be done... things like that. What we're there to do is to take a look at all the cool things and assume the crap will be taken out before it gets to you, the consumer. If and when the game comes out and that crap is still there, we let you know through a scathing, no holds barred review.

What IGN is doing here is taking a look at a canvas where the artist has laid out the base for his piece and calling it horrible before looking at the finished piece. It's a shameful grab for attention from a site who's reputation has always been questionable at best.

CRYSIS 2 has been severely watered down to run on the Consoles. CryEngine 3 isn't as good as CryEngine2 in alot of ways. Alot of comparisons will be made between PS3 and Xbox 360 but the simple FACTS are that PS3 has an overclocked processor without a large amount of GPU memory and 360 has a CPU that - although doesn't run as fast as the PS3's, does benefit from a robust GPU. 256MB vs. 512MB.

Therefore, Crysis should probably look slightly better on 360, but run better on PS3. The physics will benefit most from PS3's CPU power, but only time will tell. Thing is, I DON'T CARE. I just want the game (and Duke Nukem Forever).

Not quite related to Crysis 2, but I was wondering why you would advertise a review of a game on PC when it is not out yet...

Doc, it's one thing to look like another site (I actually prefer the new look) but it's another to share the same standards and thankfully, GR does not. I used to like IGN to be honest. Since the Dead Space 2 review however and any game with any decent amount of hype behind it scoring 8.5 - 9.0 on their site, I've lost some faith in them.

Another note to Doc, I realize that the changing layout of our site might make you think we are on our way to being some IGN repeat but that is not the case. We changed our face not our content.

I've been reading GR since '98, and migrated into ign by way of pcxl.com which became dailyradar, which if the old memory is correct, merged into ign. And it seems to me that gin's primary problem, which is GR's strength, is size. Ign is so huge, and have tried to cover much, movies, tv, etc, (anyone remember when thy tried to get into cars?) that to justify their huge staff and overhead they dribble off at the mouth with bullshit posts and softball reviews. I've been done with them for years, because as they migrated over to the tea-bagging chest thumping frat douche demographic, GR has remained smaller and more focused, with an emphasis on quality over quantity. I may have to wait a fews days (or weeks in the case of Civ V) for a review to pop up but I can have confidence they'll be brutally honest, and I honestly have to be suspicious of any gamer who can honestly believe he can adequately review a Total War, Civilization, or Fallout game by release day.

"does benefit from a robust GPU. 256MB vs. 512MB."
The 360 doesnt have 512mb of video ram, it has 512 total ram thats shared between the gpu and other things, where the ps3 has 256 video, and 256 regular, not that much of a difference between the 2.

I have also been coming here since well before the millennium, and over the years GR has maintained its attitude; I'm not worried about that. I simply feel that with all the creative freedom available with today's web tools, GR could be a little more original. I mean, is there only one way to lay down a site now?
